Quality matters, if they weren't getting playing time, does it really matter if they transferred out or sat on the bench? We've gotten more starters from the portal than we have lost to the portal.
You forgot or did not read that I said we lost players for other reasons, not just to the Portal. If you read closely I listed the number of players who left via the portal and the number that entered (replace) via the portal. We had 66 players in the Portal for the past four season. 22 players came via the Portal and 44 left by the Portal. That is a net difference of 22 players (not staying but leaving). Also, I did refer to recruits in a indirect way. That reference was that we lost a recruiting class when you factor the net lost of players by the portal. When you average 25 signees a season. Add in the other reasons for leaving that number gets bigger. I agree that some of the incoming players have been impact players. To have a semi successful season you need to have way more than the three that you listed.
Numbers don’t tell the whole story. We did lose a couple players that were talented but for the most part it’s just cutting loose dead weight. We have our 85 and many of those need to find new homes too.
If the Gators win out the season and have a good bowl game, look for: good players staying, a good recruiting class, and players getting here via the portal.
Not that I’m aware of. Either way, we’re projected to have 22 DB’s next season. They can’t possibly all come back.
Scholarships need to be cut to 46 to 50 anyway since there's no draft. That would keep the few from stock piling 4 and 5 star recruits.
NIL will destroy the sport way before the transfer portal does. Unless they say NIL deals can't be made between a college and ajigh school player until after he actually enrolls in the school, NIL will obliterate the competitiveness. NIL is fine and good, but recruiting should not have a NIL component. If the kids don't like a deal they get after playing at the school, they transfer out.
The school is not part of the deal it comes from a 3rd party. The schools aren't paying or part of the negotiation.
It's being paid on behalf of the school.... if the NIL offer is accepted, the school is accepting the athlete as a student. We all know how this is working.
