That's where a lot of the faculty at Emory live plus a lot of the Jewish community. It's generally a fairly progressive population.

What's sad is the number of votes that Walker got

Those constituencies only make up a small percent of DeKalb County voters, less than 5% I would guess..

1700 faculty for the med school alone. The hospital employs about 4000 people, not counting the rehab hospital, the veterans hospital and the CDC. I'm guessing the average education level is pretty high around there.

Ga is still a very red state. The only time the Dems win is when Trump or his proxies are on the ballot. Dems haven’t otherwise won a statewide race in 2 decades.

The times they are a changin’

Very happy to see Walker lose. Absolutely zero business as a senator. Hopefully the GOP will pull their heads out of their asses and put forward reasonable candidates.

He just conceded gracefully, proving (as if there were any doubt) he's a far, far better man than Trump.

It’s clearly trending blue. Big cities with affluent suburban people vote blue

Well, I heard one bright Georgian explain his vote: "Walker is a Christian." Reminds me of what H.L. Mencken said: "Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance."

In his speech, Warnock said (paraphrased): "I will serve all of you, including those who didn't vote for me. We are all Americans."

Seriously . . . . when was the last time you heard a Republican winner say that?????

For most of them, it's all about division, owning the libs, culture wars, and dehumanizing "others" (immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ people, etc).

Yes but the general election showed there is very much a constituency for “normal” Republicans. Kemp’s crew mopped the floor with the Dems.

Yes the area around Emory and CDC is pretty affluent cosmopolitan liberal but DeKalb County is much larger than that. I’d say the more representative average DeKalb voter is a working class African American or lower middle class white non-redneck, both pillars of the Dem coalition.

been here since 2000 and the state has changed a lot. I’m in north suburbs and it’s 3/1 Democrat. It’s same or more in the city. Places like savannah which used to be old Georgia are now 2/1 Democrat. Population has exploded and that trend isn’t changing. Frankly I was shocked that Kemp won. Walker was a horrendous candidate with no message other than he played at UGa. The Tv commercial content was not comparable. Warnock campaign was faaaar better. Abrams was a terrible candidate. She only Got the nomination because it was her turn and not based on merit. Dems won’t make that mistake again and I expect Georgia to be full blue going forward.

I’m personally shocked. FL is growing faster than GA and is getting redder and redder.
