That's a nice thought but he is a lame duck coach even if he returns. No one is going to want to join this staff.

Timing. It ain't just a passing concept.

never heard this before. ADs don’t normally make staffing suggestions for coaches that are winning conference and national titles and average like 10 wins a season. They do this for staffs that are struggling.

Not buying that one, Spurrier always filled his staff with guys he'd worked with before or his kid.

To me, Napier knows he will not be retained. It’s obvious with his comments and body language. Therefore, the only question is when will he be let go; I suspect at or near the end of this season. It’s a dumpster fire now. I can’t see any benefit to firing him now - it would just put gasoline on the fire with respect to everything. Of course, Stricklan is talking to certain, prospective coaches for an after season announcement.
    Just my opinion.

If I were Stricklin I’d make comments to the press indicating that I was neglecting a portion of my job and then wear a Darth Vader costume to my next presser so I could get my buyout.

I haven’t really thought about that. Does anyone know if SS has a buyout?

Could've locked the thread after this one. Rick and the dentist would still be friends, Napier continues to exact a toll on Gator Nation.

As others said I had to go back to the date of OP thread. This thread was relevant maybe in Dec of 2023. Ship has sailed and Napier made his bed. Let Napier coach away but if he is not 7-5 or better it is time for new coach. I’m rooting for the guy but I have my doubts. My question is if Kiffin turns us down who is our 2nd choice. I’m feeling Mike Gundy with Gruden running operations or some big position.

I don’t think great coaches will work under him, that’s why he hire a kid as a dc. He’s done.

Hire a good coach, do everything within power to give him 100% success and get the hell out of his way. Saban probably answers to none and neither did Meyer. Maybe that’s why Meyer and sos left. Get out of their kitchen.

I have a bad feeling that both SS and BN will be back next year due to our lack of leadership at the top. We don’t have enough ducks in a row to get the coach we need. It is super depressing.

But he did split and most of us believe there was friction.

The only reason it could be a positive is that we can’t get the coach we need. No need hiring another failure just to make a change

I agree, I want the right guy this time. I do think that we need to get the right upper management in place before we can get the right guy. I am hearing from people much more connected to the program than me that this may draw out another season. I hope they are wrong. Boo!
