This x100. Especially considering that he encouraged the kid to go to a school ESPN doesn't even have the broadcasting rights for. Herbie (in his mind) is trying to help the kid, good for him.
That's ancient history. He was caught up in the moment and in the hype. OSU has logged 2 [edit= 1] nattys since, while we've spun our wheels since the decade before the last one. I'm pretty sure he's long over that. (....and why would he be luring a stud away from our arch rival, if Gator hate was somehow a driving consideration, anyway?)
I don't disagree however....2 nattys? It's one a piece since that game. Of course their program has obviously been healthier since that time but I couldn't let them claim an extra title on a Gator board.
I honestly don't recall him saying anything worse than the reality of what's developed before our own eyes. If anything, I've been way more pissed by what I've seen, than what any talking head has said about it.
As much as i hate OSU I wish you were correct because it might have meant Georgia hadn't won it last year.
Good luck with this kid, 4 high schools in 4 years, 3 commitments to 3 different schools. Sounds a little like Nick Evers Mullen recruited. He did wind up being a head case. Now he’s at Wisconsin. In 2 years he’ll be on a barstool selling life insurance for his day job.
Some people are still mad at Herbstreit for trying to screw the Gators out of the 2006 Natty when Kirk used his position on ESPN to lobby for a Michigan- OSU rematch for the Natty. I'm over it... long time ago.
Not that I’m trying to call anyone Mahomes 2 without a ball thrown, nor should anyone, however I’m sitting here wondering the same. If this guy is so good, thanks Herb but the bigger question is this feels like it doesn’t pass the smell test, but why? I think the NCAA of old would have been more curious about this but it’s a new day in college football and it’s much different.
Herbie's great and outside of one time 18 years ago being a big 10 homer he has had a lot of good to say about UF. This "anti-UF" narrative about him grows like folklore, but it isnt really true.
Everybody has a team and he was clearly off base that we didn’t belong on the field. No big deal really. I wouldn’t want him talking on my tv during a rematch but otherwise he does a good job.
Maybe Herb is just pissed at Ga for stealing Raiola away from OSU. That seems more plausible than some weird vendetta against the SEC
