Car industry faces choke point as US hurricane shuts down critical microchip mine (msn.com)

Global supplies of microchips that feature in cars and smartphones have been threatened after the US hurricane Helene forced the closure of a mine that is critical to production.

Flooding and power outages caused by the hurricane have shut down mining and processing operations at Spruce Pine, a quartz facility in a remote area of North Carolina.

The site, which is secretive and closely guarded, produces the vast majority of the quartz sand used to manufacture high-purity polysilicon crystals. The crystals are used to make modern semiconductors and solar panels, making it a singular choke point for supplies of the critical components.
    .....................................................
Sibelco, the mining company that owns most of the operations at Spruce Pine, said it had “temporarily halted” operations. However, it is possible that recovering from the weather event could take months, potentially disrupting supplies of silicon and leading to a new microchip supply crunch.

    WOW!
    That's embarrassing.

When disasters like this happen, it should automatically be all hands on deck.

Also all non essential foreign aid should be redirected to finance these efforts and the rebuild.

Story to go with X - Get It Done Now Biden/Harris:

People are Dying in Hurricane Helene's Aftermath While Government Helicopters Remain Grounded (townhall.com)

As time marches on, the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and catastrophic damage is becoming increasingly clear. Stranded Americans still are not getting the help they need and the situation is dire.

According to Republican Congressman Michael Walz, a number of military helicopters that could be used to rescue people, in places where road access in the mountains of North Carolina has been cut off, have not been deployed by the Biden administration.

Hundreds of people are still missing while cell service and clean drinking water are still unavailable in a number of areas.

Yep. There is a lot of suffering and a lot of people feeling like their government has abandoned them. There is a growing anger (fair or not) that the Feds are not doing enough (anything) to help those in need. Meanwhile aid flowing to Ukraine (that i absolutely support) makes a convenient straw man for the argument that the incumbents like them more than Americans. Will certainly affect the NC vote - a lot of hate voting against the current administration similar to Bush after Katrina. As the anger grows it may play a significant factor in the Presidential race. I look for trump to politicize the heck out of the situation.

First of all, Trump already has politicized it, even with some of his usual lies. But I suspect you're right about the votes. I'm sure none of us has a really solid grip on the scope of the aid. Whatever is being done, it's inevitable for those suffering to feel like it's not enough.
And the political angle will obviously make it much worse. Phony photos of a heroic Trump wading thru deep water. Rightwing media claiming the federal govt isn't doing anything, etc.
A partisan split that will make the bad even worse.

Yet, at the heart of it is some truth. This is a/the raison d’etre for having a strong central government. The perception that not enough is being done - never mind the daunting logistical problems - will be fanned by those with other motives. Makes me ill to know its coming.

I donated some money to help - i’ll stop the rant mow.

The Harris Administration offered Helene victims $750. What's going on with the federal responsible is despicable.

Kamala's Disgraceful Offer to Hurricane Helene Victims (townhall.com)

Harris visited the area on Wednesday and then declared it a federal disaster area. The only problem is Harris has misspent the FEMA budgeted money on higher priorities than American citizens in desperate need.

It's another Biden-Harris fiasco, where their incompetence and inability to do the job is leaving scores of flood-ravaged victims across the southern United States lingering in fear. These people have lost everything. Hundreds are missing, and the death toll has crept up to nearly 200 people. It’s one of the deadliest hurricanes to strike the United States, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency doesn’t have the money to cover disaster relief for this hurricane season. Why? Well, this administration diverted FEMA cash to shelter illegal aliens (via The Federalist).

"The Biden-Harris administration took more than a billion tax dollars that had been allocated to the agency responsible for American disaster relief and used it to offer services for illegal immigrants.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated nearly $364 million in the fiscal year 2023 and $650 million for the 2024 fiscal year to the “Shelter and Services Program” “to provide humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants following their release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” according to the government’s website.

The program is run in cooperation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “to support CBP in the safe, orderly and humane release of noncitizen migrants from short-term holding facilities,” FEMA’s website reads."

President Trump was on the Harris administration non-response on Monday two days before Kamrade Kamala visited on Wednesday.

Trump called it like he saw it as the feds not responding in an impactful and helpful manner to the point of being negligent.

Trump Teams Up with Samaritan's Purse's Franklin Graham, Says Biden-Harris 'Non-Responsive' to Hurricane (msn.com)

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump charged that President Joe Biden has been unresponsive to Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

Trump also faulted Vice President Kamala Harris for attending fundraisers on the West Coast while Americans out east are suffering from the storm's impact.

"What do you think of Gov. Kemp’s response to the storm here in Georgia?" a reporter asked Trump after he landed in Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday to deliver supplies to Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse relief organization.

"The governor’s doing a very good job. He’s having a hard time getting the president on the phone. I guess they’re not being responsive enough. The federal government is not being responsive," the former president said.

"He won’t get on [the phone] and of course the vice president, she’s out someplace campaigning, looking for money," he added.

The predictable lamestream media immediately fact checked Trump as making false claims. Here we are on Thursday and the lamestream media has once again been proven to be a pack of despicable liars. Trump was 100% true.

Not only has Trump delivered supplies himself, but he also set up a GoFundMe page for the Helene victims if any of you folks want to donate:

Fundraiser by Meredith ORourke : Support Hurricane Helene Victims - Trump Authorized (gofundme.com)

$4,434,217 raised for Hurricane Helene Relief.
    29.8K donations

The Harris administration as has been shown today has misspent, misused, monies budgeted for FEMA on the care of illegal aliens they have opened the borders for. Kamrade Kama cares more about her illegal aliens than she does the American people. Offering the Helene impacted residents of North Carolina $750.00 is a despicably inadequate response.

I am sick of the constant lies from Trump and MAGA.

First Trump lies that Ga governor can't get a hold of Biden. He then lies and says that NC governor is not helping western NC because they are republican. Hey dumbass - Ashville is as Blue as it gets!

If hell does exist, Trump is going to have a very special place there.

Harris/Walz/Biden and the democratic socialist communist party are the biggest liars in the world. I'm sick of all of the woketard lying coming from the left. Evil does exist and those on the left will get their just rewards.

Wow, that feels good to get off of my chest. Thank you.

they have to get the roads open, but they should be deploying the national guard and military to build temp bridges, roadways

fema should also have use of military drones and satellites to use thermal imaging for search and rescue

in a perfect world. no idea what their resource limitations are

fema isn't responsible for people not being prepared to care for themselves for 72 - 96 hours. either warnings were ignored or people issuing warnings were asleep at the switch. none of that is on FEMA but it will all be blamed on them

It’s mostly just revealing into how he thinks. Same guy that wanted to repeal Sandy relief and during his admin witheld aid to California and Puerto Rico.

I’m quite sure nobody is withholding anything aid or emergency relief related over politics. That’s a unique Trump trait.

None are so blind as those who will not see. In woketard left cases like this, lost causes devoid of the truth.

Not really because I've been staying with my gf who got power back Sunday evening.

On a side note, I bought an Ecoflow River 2 Pro that just got delivered. It's moreso so for the tailgate than anything. Should power my 50" tv for 6-8hrs. It's LiPo instead of regular lithium and completely silent. Trying to leave work and go get it before the porch pirates do.

I just recently learned how little power a TV uses. I was considering putting one in my camper van, so I bought one of those power use meters to see how juice one of my older LED TVs was using. It was only like 20 watts.

PS. Also, your EcoFlow needs to be plugged in to charge it right? It really isn't a generator on its own, just a battery and inverter.

Did you use a Kill-a-Watt to measure it? Been thinking about getting one.

And yeah, not a generator. They are most commonly known as Personal Power Stations. That one is a lil under 800 Watt Hours, so it should be fine for tailgating. No fumes. No noise.
