Hey friends, I will once again run the Hallgator pick 'em throughout the mens Gator hoops season. If you're new to this, it's an open contest for everybody and nobody gets ejected, so you can participate as you wish throughout the season (i.e. no penalty for missing a pick). It's titled as such because Hallgator was a longtime member of the board who passed away a couple years ago. He was a great poster who lived in G'ville and grew up in Minnesota. Here are the rules: Pick the score of each team, the Most Valuable Gator (MVG), and the Stat of the Game (SoG). MVG and SoG are required to earn points. If either are not included in a pick, it will be nullified. I am posting this here for future reference. The rule will stand. Points are awarded as follows: Closest to the score = 2 Get the Gator score = 1 Get the opponent score = .5 MVG = .5 MVG will be determined by Value Pt Scoring, which is an efficiency metric. Don't be surprised when the player who scores 20 pts but jacked up 25 shots isn't the MVG. Blocks, assists, steals & accurate shooting are important. The formula is as follows: Pts + rbds + 2x(asst + stls + blks) / FT miss + 2x(fg miss + fouls + TOs) There is no need to respond here for eligibility. Feel free to ask Qs & offer suggestions. I want to shoutout to @gothamgator95, who started the pick 'em many years ago and @GatorLurker, who ran it for a little while after gotham retired. It's almost time for some Gator hoops!
On another note: I will do my best to keep up with the contest, but it's gonna get dicey late Dec/early Jan. Without getting into details, my wife and I will have a little "life event" (a good one) coming up which will make things unusually busy. Pick 'em threads will usually be posted 2 days or more prior to a game. If I get in the weeds, I'll let y'all know.
Note that there is a, possibly mythical, mug of ale awarded to the winner. Also note that picking the winner of the game correctly does not affect your score under the rules. (Still think it should!)

I used to do this all the time back in the day. I actually started watching quite a few games again last season, a trend I hope continues this season! Hopefully I'll be down for more than a few drive-by picks this season!
