Trying to picture a 'fowl mouth' and thought this might work. Even looks like he might be sitting in a Golden Corral from what I remember of the place. My grandchildren liked to go there when they were young kids.
I would say you are wrong. I can think of no reason it would be necessary to mention a person's color or race when relating an incident about something offensive or vulgar the subjected person may have said.
Our kids liked it when they were younger. My wife and I hadn't been since they left, but went a few times before the pandemic. She didn't like it, she never likes buffets. It had a great senior special once you figured it out.
Why tell that story? What is the point? Why are others making fun of his choice of restaurant? He went somewhere he wanted to go… so what. The judgemental, condescending responses are sad. I truly don’t know the purpose of the story. To tell us his family has code words? That he uses them in public. I would guess we are all circumspect with what we say in certain public situations.
You have to picture the whole scene, though. He was probably doing his black Canadian voice when he repeated what she said, so it prompted someone to ask.
As a child, if we were scolded in public, my Mom would use German. You knew there was trouble if she started speaking German.
I’ll bite. I’m just taking a stab but my guess is that some blacks speak in very strong jargon and probably have little exposure to white folks. Communication can be difficult for both sides. My middle and high school had a large population of blacks students and some were very difficult to understand, the way they spoke. There is no doubt that many whites who haven’t been around what I’m attempting to describe wouldn’t be able to understand some blacks. It ain’t racism, it’s just a part of American culture.
Yeah because there are so many black people in America (and Canada) that haven’t been around white people.
'If you can't say anything nice about a person, say nothing at all.' My mother's sage old advice. I have certainly failed to follow it on numerous occasions, but never bragged about the failure.
