Been a while since I’ve seen a defense as tough as Houston’s. Oh wait, we’ve got a stellar defense too!
Good thing we have classy players that show more respect than this for the opponent. Like Walter Clayton consoling one of their players.
Yeah, improper phone calls to recruits. The horror in this day and age of NIL, the portal and poaching.
I feel for Houston I attended both schools but in the end go gators! Sampson is a hell of a coach he only had 1 4* player on there team and he didn’t even score a point. I think Florida only had one 4* player on there team too
Wow, great picture. That is the player who dropped the ball at the end and had the turnover off his knee. They may have known each other for a long time too as he is from Tampa.
If you read the Gainesville Sun, Sampson said he talked in the huddle to Sharp that if someone is closing on him, fake the shot, drive for the basket and shoot it so that they could get an offensive rebound if he missed. Methinks the moment was a bit too big for their guards going down the stretch. And that is what separates this team from the other really good teams this year. Just an incredible display of team determination.
Yes sir, Houston was for real. In a game like that, any one of a thousand little things scan swing the outcome. We were fortunate they swung for us on this night.
Fatherhood has been a good thing for Walter. He has a much better perspective on life. Basketball is a passion and a way to make a living. Life is MUCH more.
It is just like Wade. He tried to play the Blue Blood card without the actual blue blood and went WAY too far. He was caught red handed and doubled (tripled?) down. Nowadays, that is called reality. Well, except for that "WAY too far" part. Nothing is ever WAY too far, if you have enough money.
I was also impressed with Houston. They played hard, played their game, and almost pulled it off. They DID beat the team so many thought was unbeatable with this same grit and determination. Props to them- but so glad we pulled it out!!
Now now, we needn't be that petty. Let's have some fun. They aren't Kentucky in basketball or Miami in just about everything.
As much as anything, this one act shows Walt's character. In the middle of the ultimate celebration, he took time to show empathy. I honestly respect that more than any of the buckets he hit this year. He's a damn good kid!
Very classy. If I would've turned the ball over twice in the final minute of the NC game, I would be crying too.
I also recall seeing one of our guys extending a hand to help one of their players up off the floor under the basket. Can’t find it on replay to see who the two players were but it was a classy friendly gesture in the heat of battle.
I very much enjoyed beating many of the blue blood schools in all our past Finals runs, including the years we didn't win it all, but I did not have the same enjoyment beating Houston. That was a tough team and you can't hate on what Sampson built.
Houston was fortuante that we didn't beat them by 15 or more. Just a little better shooting and ball securtiy on our part would have made it a very comfortable win.
