People forget Zook had 3 big games Leaks first season, beats eventual national champion LSU at LSU, fairly easily, beats #2 GA and beats top 10 Ark,on the road (I think). But then loses against FSU at home against the worst officiating I’ve ever seen, and gets boat raced by Iowa in a bowl.

Zook was a master at winning big games on the road but would lose to sub top 20 teams at home.

He was a damn good special teams coach.

The loss to Ole Miss at home was the worst. If I recall we got blanked after the half and lost 17-14. Eli was the QB

We have always had a shitty history with the Mississippi teams, even going back to Spurrier.

I think I started posting on message boards after our loss to winless ole miss eith zook. Gatorsports I think. I was irritated and going to throw my 2 cents. But after about 100 apoplectic posts by other fans I really had nothing to add.

Oh I know, I used to worry like mad going out west to play. Every year we lost to a weaker west team. Be it Miss st, Auburn or Ole Miss.
    Hated that

I think he meant "since Spurrier."

8 seems really high. I’d be surprised if we win 4-5.

For two years posted about concern for his mindset, lack of emotion, lack of offensive creativity, and so on and was heavily disagreed with. I talked to others more connected than me and they felt the same way and thought it would never work.

Let’s hope this time they go get a proven guy like Kiffen that wins even at FAU. Now, talk about a guy not inheriting a good situation. The next guy will have to be in the portal day one picking up 3-4 DL and Edge guys, 2-3 big time O lineman ( not usually many), 2 receivers with Badger and Duke gone, and a running back if any young guys transfer. Although at running back I think Jacobi Jackson needs to play. At minimum 15 in the portal and 8-10 will have to be “home runs” for us to win 8 games next year.

We ran the ball right down their throats for 80 yards late in the 4th to close that one out. For those that don’t remember, teams didn’t do that to the Noles in the LEGO Clad Erector Set. Not in those days.

Remember it fondly with Zook being carried off the field.

    C4 and Leak played great.

I’d keep Napier with the provision that he fires his defensive and offensive coordinators, for starters.

Zook had the worst possible luck in his three years at UF. He was hired three weeks before NSD in 2002. He was following the greatest college coach of all time. He had two huge games stolen from him by corrupt officials ( FSU in 03, and UT in 04), and started his final season with the disruptions of four hurricanes hitting Florida during August and September.

He is a good man who gave us his all even after he was fired.

I think the brass and even a lot of fans would be OK with Napier at .500 given the schedule this year. But not when we lose like this. He isn’t even putting a competitive team on the field. Miami and aTm are good teams. Go play well and lose by a TD. Be in the game at some point.

The old “eye test” shows just how bad we are now.

Yeah, it’s a long season. 7, maybe even 8, first downs is definitely doable.

If he has to continue till seasons end to get his money, he’ll find motivation.

Six wins? I no longer see four. It’s more likely than not we have no more than two.

It was never a number for me. I think 6 could have saved him if our schedule was as tough as imagined and we looked like a good team going 6-6. We have looked like crap and that has nothing to do with how many wins. The coaching looks bad, mostly pay calling and gameday decisions. But there is clearly to me anyway, lack of talent on both sides of the line and in todays game comes down to not buying th players needed to compete in the sec. A& M wasn’t more talented than us anywhere except on both lines and that made a difference.
