If these cause us to go into a recession it’s possible the house and senate will turn dem in two years.

Once again as I’ve stated before I’m glad I’m 72, retired, out of the market and financially sound. If I were younger, working, and married with kids I’d be worried about my and their future.

He is seemingly destroying the country for two reasons.
    1. To get back people for the 2020 election. We know he is ruling on spite and retaliation.
    2. He wants to tank the economy and then blame Biden and Democrats. So he will proclaim he needs another term, or more POWER.

The chances are that the 2026 midterms will see Blue wave in the House on par with the Red wave in 2010 when the Republicans picked up over 60 seats. The Senate will be more difficult to flip although even that is not beyond the realm of possibility considering the way Trump is screwing up the economy. Trump won the popular vote by a 1.6% margin and is convinced that he has a mandate not unlike W in 2004 who actually won by a larger margin than Trump in 2024 and with larger Republican margins in the House and Senate than did the Republicans in 2024.

I dont like those tariffs either, although they are likely less damaging than the stupid Mexican and Canadian ones (most companies can easily design a system to avoid tariffs on China while still manufacturing in China, often by utilizing additional manufacturing in either Mexico or Canada). But I was mostly just posting on the hilarity of the fact that Trump will likely need to bail out farmers by buying food again (as he did in his first term) but now has dismantled the apparatus for distributing that food to project soft power. So we get to just sit on rotting, useless food now. Alternatively, he could just let a bunch of his supporters' businesses fail.

Going to be some good buys! The market has been due for a correction. Yesterday was a weird day for me. I was up over 1% as two of my largest holdings were up 15% and almost 3%. Another one was basically flat. Today down about 0.6% so far. Want to jump on a some spx options but doubt I will as it would be gambling. I almost pulled the trigger on calls when the S&P hit down 110 to catch what I see happen often and a small rebound. Could have made a nice chunk. I would switch to puts right now. Think we will head back to the lows of the day...

Agreed about being worried for the future of my kids. But I would not worry about the market. It will come back. Shoot it has come back way faster than I thought it would after we shut the world down for no reason...

I should elaborate. We need to put tariffs on China, but strategically on those things we can easily source somewhere else and not on things that would affect us negatively. Now, they know this, and this is the "game" that is typically played with tariffs.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but the rationalization for this idiotic fight with Canada is now fentanyl.
We seized a grand total of 43 pounds at the border last year, where we seized 21k pounds from the southern border. Yet we are flying headfirst into a suicide pact with our biggest trading partner and greatest partner. For what? So we can look tough? It’s the literal definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

canadian lumber is a national security threat..didn't you know

now we can clear cut all of our national forests and bypass all environmental rules to do so. Once clear cut, we can sell them off for golf courses for our Russian investors to enjoy our scenery. Just think of the hunting licenses we can sell at Yellowstone and in Denali

Trump's 'God Squad' Timber Logging Mandate Is Legally Murky (2)

President Donald Trump’s plans to use the “God Squad” and emergency provisions of the Endangered Species Act to promote widespread logging on public lands are likely illegal and little more than rhetoric without the force of law, legal experts say.

Trump signed an executive order on March 1 requiring the US Forest Service and the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management to expedite timber harvesting on federal lands.

It directs agencies to use ESA emergency regulations and the Endangered Species Committee, also known as the “God Squad,” to find ways to speed up approval of timber harvests and report to Trump about endangered species that stand in the way of logging.

The order also requires the agencies to create categorical exclusions for timber sales under the National Environmental Policy Act. A separate order, signed after Trump threatened to impose tariffs on imports of Canadian lumber, declares that timber and lumber imports pose a national security risk.
