I think whether the holiday is broadly known among this community is irrelevant. Wishing someone a nice holiday is in no way controversial. At least, it shouldn’t be.
It was disappointing to see this post noting the exclusion of a Purim greeting in the Den. And though limited as it was, good to read a celebration post of this holiday is yet permitted to remain on a Gator country thread. For as long as I can remember the late RayGator faithfully posted greetings echoing Jewish blessings, every Passover and Channukah season on several Gator Country forums. I'm quite sure he would approve reversing the ill conceived decision to lock this thread's OP. Thank you TGG, for reminding us, genocidal murderous hatred - ever present, then and now - is deeply rooted in the past. Thwarted in this case by the bravery of 2 unselfish and beautiful women, Queens Vashti, who was divorced for refusing to do what King Ahasuerus demanded of her and subsequently, Esther, who persuaded the king of Haman's lies and plot to kill all the Jews. And to justify the thread's move to Too Hot, a few other details can be included to link that ancient event to more recent events. Parallels in time... Fear of the stranger, the foreigner and his alien customs, scapegoated for crimes, etc. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/the-story-of-purim/
But not so strange in these uneasy times. A cautionary tale of the times. May we not forget history does find a way to repeat. Shalom to all of Good Will.
I won't give you the rating but I completely disagree. Probably the first time I've been completely opposite of you on anything.
Thank you for that reminder of Ray, and for that thorough writeup and reminder history repeats in different forms
I agree 100%. Do you also agree that this "Genocidal murderous hatred" also applies to Israel for their ill treatment of the peoples of Palestine?
This point was surely made, but I think the initial objection arose over the greeting as it may have been incorrectly perceived as an endorsement of a particular religion or political position. I can't speak to that but I don't think it was @TallyGatorGirl 's intention. Nonetheless, a discussion worth having for the sake of clarity.
There's a search feature where you can see Easter and Christmas threads in the Den every year going back through history. This thread only became political once it was moved here. Y'all are funny
Go help us if someone posted happy Pride month in the Den in June, or perhaps noted Black History month in February. Pluralism is 'political' in America now.
You could post a thread in this forum about your favorite car, and within 10 posts it would be political.
I will agree that was not TallyGatorGirl's intention. I have an ongoing concern with antisemitism in the US and even on this board and knew from history that it would venture the way this thread did. If it happened again I would not lock it but monitor it closely and when it went off the rails as it most surely would, then lock it.
