It’s a transaction with value. You pay your taxes and you remain safer from Russians, drive on roads that work, post on this site, get an educated workforce who works in places that have safety standards so they can buy stuff from you and a plethora of other benefits that you get by being an American and all they ask is a small part of your income to keep it up. Lots of people in the world would trade places with you.

You ought to give a lot more…by your logic, you’d feel more value and so much more safe! LMAO
Govt is a necessary evil and you know it. It’s why no one should advocate for more of it.

Necessary and better to farmers and food producers than sketchy, half baked libbie govt programs.

I've been in and worked at a lot of countries where people pay little to no taxes. The typical United States citizen would not accept that standard of living.

Exactly. You advocate for more government often. You just classify it in your mind as "necessary" in those instances and "sketchy" whenever you don't want it.

I don't think government as a concept is evil. They execution of government may be evil, e.g. Nazi Germany, but in principle, government is not inherently bad.

The Tax Code sucks. You shouldn't have to lift a finger to stay out of trouble with them. It shouldn't be up to me at the risk of fines and imprisonment to insure I'm having "my fair share" withheld. That should be up to them. We don't need an army of IRS collection enforcement going after individuals. We need a consumption tax and that's it. Fair tax, flat tax, whatever you want to call it.

So the alternative is no taxes, ergo no government leading to anarchy, some kind of quasi feudal arrangement, and eventually being overrun by foreign powers who will not hesitate to enslave or kill you. Good times.

Why is consumption the only activity that should be taxed? We have numerous economic activities. Why are only consumers responsible for paying for the functioning of government? Is that the only benefit that arises from the benefits of a government (e.g., a legal system, a military and law enforcement system, a road system, etc.)?

It is fascinating. There are absolutely places in the world where you can go and not pay taxes because the government has failed and can't either collect funds or administer services. And yet, nobody seems to want to move to them.

Don't you know you have to pay your "FAIR SHARE" so that these 'selected' clowns in congress can get rich off of your hard work. And then what's left of the American tax payers "extortion money" goes to enrich their terrorist commie friends abroad.

Our taxes go for the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good things are obvious. The bad things are more subjective, I guess. Like without taxes we couldn't help support the slaughter or starvation of thousands of children in Gaza. I think this is bad, but there are people who think this is good because some Hamas get killed in the process. And the only way to get to Hamas is to blast or starve those children out of the way. Anyway, I've paid my taxes this year. I think the IRS should send T-shirts out in return, saying "This shirt killed a child today."

The places with very low taxes run a weird gamut. On one side you have places like Monaco and Bermuda. On the other side you have places like Somalia

I get the point you’re making.
The problem is in the operators of govt.
    That makes it inherently bad.

There's an adjective that describes a consumption tax. The word is "regressive".

By the way I would agree that the Tax Code sucks and that's largely attributable to individuals and organizations that can put in the fix through campaign contributions.
