Hallgator Pick 'em: Gators vs. Richmond Spiders (MBB)

SoG was big in this one. The Gators made 20/25 FTs (80%) while the Spiders made only 11/19 (58%). Sog = +9. Gators also owned the glass to the tune of +19. This was an important win against another pesky team. Richard was HUGE with the second half barrage of 3s, but he was solid all around. Perhaps less noticed was Samuel's monster game with 18/14 and two steals, enough to earn MVG status. Lotta folks had Samuel.

Please allow me to try to explain. When the Gators have a good performance, there will be multiple people with big games. MVG comes down to a matter of splitting hairs and while one or more players may have been outstanding, only one can earn MVG. I employ a metric that is comprehensive, taking into account offensive and defensive stats, both positive and negative.
In today's case, Samuel scored 18 and had 14 rebounds. That is just part of the equation. Samuel had a steal and Richard did not. Samuel missed two FTs and Richard missed none, but they both missed four shots. Richard had two turnovers to Samuel's one.
So with the turnover difference and huge disparity with rebounding, Samuel earned MVG.
