DeSantis does those things because he believes they are the right things to do and it is his destiny to make the US a nation dominated by his interpretation of christian values. DT enjoys the adoration, DeS feels it is his obligation to change the direction of the country

in the primary maybe. or Kinzinger would be great too. After the last eleaction I have to wonder if the pub primary will be controlled by MAGA again or not

why? because media convinces us that they will not so why bother? I believe there are a significant number of pubs that are tired of MAGA and those who worship at that alter of anti-woke, us vs them bs. Indy's and moderate dems need to help bring the pub party back to the middle. It is why I remain a registered pub even though I loathe what the extremes have turned the party into.
