I came away thinking she was the most impressive....other than some of her typical waffling. IMO she is the best chance for the GOP in the general election, and ironically that seems to be exactly what keeps one from winning the GOP nomination. It seems obvious to everyone except the maga crowd. It's baffling to me.

I know what you mean. I’m really trying hard to find one I’d kind of like, but the gulf between Republican voters and me is so far that it’s damn near impossible. I get it, they have to pander to their base but you’d think there is a limit. My only hope would be someone like Haley if elected would govern reasonably in spite of the few unacceptable views she has.

The question wasn’t for me, but I can’t think of views I find unacceptable. There are certainly ones that I disagree with, like tendency to spend too much, student loan forgiveness, excessive focus on identity politics, pandering to unions, but none of them are disqualifying. For Republicans I disagree on things like tax cuts but that isn’t disqualifying. The stance on Trump is, and the most hardcore views on abortion are to me also.

God save us from Nikki Haley or anyone remotely like her. The question is, is there anyone not remotely like her running ?

There's always the Orange One, St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago, his philosophical clone Vivek Ramaswamy and his wannabe Meatball Ron DeSanctimonious.

Agreed. I even think it’s quite possible that Haley or Christie don’t even hold these views but are simply being put through a test where they feel required to momentarily espouse them. Unfortunately, it’s hard to know this for sure.

On that stage I liked Christie the best. He stood up to trumpism/fascism and just made the most sense. I don't think he really believes he has a shot, but I love that he out there speaking the truth.
I don't agree with any of them on abortion, but at least Haley said we have to look at abortion as more complex than just say no. She is off on the position of Biden and Kamala. 98% of abortions take place in the first trimester, not the day before birth. How ridiculous. I loved how she put Vivak in his place. He has zero business being up there. No more businessmen! I also liked how she explained to him why we are helping Ukraine. He has no foreign national experience, and it shows! :D

So first Christie, and then Haley. Neither one them unfortunately have a chance. The republican voters today, I just can't figure out how they rationalize this. I wish we had open primaries in FL. LOL riiiiiight!

The rest are just trying to position themselves for a place in a trump admin. I hated even typing that.

I was starting to really like Vivek but after hearing some of his answers today (I didn't watch it live) I have reconsidered.

After his performance at the debate I think that Vivek Ramaswamy is the new favorite as Trump's running mate. Although I thought that it would be Kari Lake based on her status as a telegenic minor celebrity and her support of election denial. Vivek is just as charismatic as Lake maybe even more so and he echos the Donald on every issue especially the "weaponization of government" a position that is now even more of a litmus test than election denial. His denial of the reality of climate change and the related position of unmitigated support for fossil fuels further reinforces his credentials among the MAGA crowd.

Looks like Haley has gotten a little bounce.

Nikki Haley Is Starting to Look Like a Real Threat to Trump

According to a new Emerson College Polling survey, “Haley saw the largest increase in support among Republican candidates, jumping 5 points from 2 percent to 7 percent” following last week’s debate.

Nikki Haley’s support increased from about 2 percent to 9 percent among voters over 50 [years of age],” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, “while Trump’s support dropped within this age group from about 56 percent to 49 percent after the debate.”

    ****

This jump is modest, inasmuch as it still leaves Haley in the single digits. But it’s also no outlier. According to a poll conducted by The Washington Post, FiveThirtyEight, and Ipsos released last Thursday, voters were persuaded to at least give her a second look. “Pre-debate, 29 percent of GOP primary voters who watched the debate said they were considering voting for her,” according to the survey, “and that increased to 46 percent after the debate.”

    ***

It’s hardly guaranteed, and as I’ve noted, courage comes and goes with Haley. But in the “Matt Lewis primary,” you can count me among the 46 percent who are now considering voting for her.
