(GYM) Gymnastics 2024 - 2025

The neutral deduction is for out of bounds. Victoria was charged with the OOB on her first pass, but the replay showed that she didn’t step OOB but the extra mat confused the line judge. In the end, it didn’t matter since her score was dropped.

 

I think the deduction was because she missed her sissone element at the end of her first pass because she stumbled. Not for out of bounds.

 

Ferris has been ill this week and sat out meet. She is not injured. Lazzari took her spot. The Gators still scored 49.550 without our most consistent vaulter. Not sure about Lily Bruce.

 

On replay, Nguyen was clearly not OOB. The judges took a while to post score One judge thought she was OOB on 1st pass.

With #3 Florida's score of 198.125, our season average went up from 197.063 to 197.417
#2 LSU's 196.600 dropped their season average from 197.500 to 197.275

After our first meet of the season, Selena said she was as nervous as she was in her very first collegiate meet as a freshman with the extra pressure she had put on herself from wanting to look good in her Gator Nation debut. In the Georgia meet, Selena looked calm and relaxed. After an uncharacteristic fall by Leanne Wong on Beam, in front of a near capacity O'Dome, Selena was as cool as an ocean breeze after a summer shower as she leaped, flipped and turned confidently on the 4" wide apparatus (BTW, her Beam routine has a high level of difficulty that only a very few gymnasts attempt in NCAA). Skye and Kayla's potential high scoring abilities are indispensable and Jenny needed to minimize the differential between them and put together the best lineup to maximize potential scoring. It is easier to replace one gymnast, but two elites who are also two of the best in the NCAA was going to be really tough. Shuffling lineups to replace injured gymnasts is a required job skill as a coach, and Jenny is a seasoned veteran. Since recruiting was over for the 2024 class, the transfer portal was Jenny's only option. Enters Harris-Miranda. In only a couple of days, Jenny had weaved her charm and magic and convinced this west coast gal to move from a thirsty brown desert that's always on the brink, across the country to rainy and lush north central Florida. An elite gymnast of this level of talent doesn't come every year. Selena's consistency of high scoring, high flying and controlled twisting-thru-air and cat-like ability of landing on her two feet glued to the mat is a game-changer, and gives the Gators a much-needed boost with recovering the potential high scores we had lost from the two injuries. Selena is the greatest transfer pickup ever for the Gators IMHO. But there's more: In November, 5-star recruit Ly Bui decided to enroll a year early. She is a potential AA but hasn't had enough time to train. Still she was able to make the Vault lineup and has already scored a 9.9. That's how talented she is! Then Skye Blakey's rehab and recovery from her devisting injury has been going so well, she's ahead of schedule and is in the Bars lineup improving every meet. Skye could be in more lineups, depending on her rehabbing, as the season progresses.
The season is not even at the half-way point. There are a lot of tough meets ahead. Still, there's a feeling of swag coming from the team. An aura of excitement and confidence. I'm starting to have a very good feeling for our chances.

 

On Monday, Jan 20th, Utah, our next opponent, had another meet. This was their first meet since their talented freshman Avery Neff was injured.

NCAA Week Four Reflections and Predictions

Oklahoma - it wasn’t their strongest week, but some of the scoring at Alabama was also wonky (9.85 for Fatta on bars?) I like that KJ is putting people like Elle and Addison in more lineups to start to test the depth. Still not worried about them.
LSU - I said last week that they were looking a little sloppy; and their landings on both vault and floor had seemed underrotated across the board. That definitely came back to bite them this week. I think we’re also seeing the impact of the lack of depth - every lineup has at least one athlete that feels like…they shouldn’t be there. I hope this is a bit of a wake up call to bring the fire in their training.
Florida - the home cooking in Gainesville is quite honestly embarrassing, the worst in the country. That was a low / mid 197 performance for them that went over 198. I continue to be confused why athletes like Skye are in the lineups - should she not be redshirting? Feels like the home scores let Jenny get away with bad lineup choices that will bite them in post season. Also not sure what’s going on with Leanne this season…

Ridiculous review of UF...what are their credentials ( Redditt's College Gymnastics)? Looks similar to what we have going here , except I think our thread is better

It seems every time the Gators get a high score, the gymternet complains about it. I replayed the meet twice. Florida performed much better than last week's 197.450 at LSU, especially on Vault and Bars. They looked far superior to Georgia, who only has 3 gymnasts with a 10.0 start value. Georgia's Beam is so much better than last year's, and are high level/high risk. It was def not a "low / mid 197 performance." Vault was much better than last week's-even with our most consistent vaulter Danie Ferris out with the flu-and their best performance by far. On Sloane's vault I gave her 9.875, Lui 9.9, Anya 9.875. The Gators have the strongest VT lineup in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if they score multiple 49.700+ this season. Bars is improving every week. Riley had her best so far- I gave her 9.85, Wong 9.85, Selena 9.9. Their Beam lineup is right there with Oklahoma's. Sloane and Nguyen-no balance checks and solid landings and received 9.95 from both judges. Anya's splits are improving, but I thought her score should've been 9.9. Selena maybe 9.9 instead of 9.925 but her level of difficulty is very high. On FX, no Gator scored above 9.925. It was a big improvement from their prior meet. Anya's leaps are improving. I gave her 9.8. The judges' scores on the other gymnasts' were accurate. 198.125 is a little more than what I saw, but "quite honestly embarrassing, the worst in the country" sounds more like it's a personal issue you have with Florida? I'm all for objective criticism, and would love to see what your scores were. I'm not an expert, but I consider myself to be better informed than the average fan-not a whole lot better, but I've studied the Balancebeam.com rules book, replay meets in slow-mo, etc. Where did you think the judges' scoring was off?

Wow, so much Gator hatin' in here. If it weren't for a disastrous Bars performance, Florida would've beaten LSU last week. They came all the way back, and actually led before LSU's last FX routine performer. In their 1st meet, the Gators almost gave the meet away when they had to count a fall on FX. Up until then, they were way ahead and on their way to a mid 197+ score. But the "Florida’s home scoring is insane and disrespectful to all involved" or "quite honestly embarrassing, the worst in the country" are a bit extreme and quite silly. I've watched most of the meets of the top teams this year: Michigan looked like a Div III team at Denver, who also looked pretty bad. Oklahoma is not the same team as last year's, and will finish third in the SEC championship if both Florida and LSU continue to improve. They also have a depth problem and can't lose another gymnast from injury. Oklahoma recruits 5 or more gymnasts a year-all 4 and 5-star-and have a large roster. I don't understand why they use so few athletes each meet, or have a depth problem? Are their recruits overrated? Utah won't finish top 4 unless Avery recovers and returns to form and unless they dramatically improve Vault. I haven't seen UCLA but their scoring is inconsistent. Florida is the most complete team and if they avoid injury and continue improving, they will win it all.

 

ETGator1 liked one of my posts yesterday, but that was it. No posting in over a week has me a little concerned. I sure hope he's ok.

 

After reading more of her posts. I'm pretty sure she's an Oklahoma fan. She had mentioned somewhere that KJ Kindler-OUs coach-had complained about Oklahoma's scoring being too low. Welcome to the SEC!
