We are not talking enough about Phlandrous Fleming Jr.

Very complete game and reminds me a lot of Kawhi with his style of play. Similar ball handling (that is a compliment), great mid-range jump shooter, and can step back and nail the three. Drives well to the basket. Nice post up game... especially with his back to the basket. Solid frame.

Guys, this is a complete basketball player right here. He's certainly a better basketball player *right now* than anyone we lost. I think Coach White got us one. I'd say that after last year, he was very careful in who he added to the roster. He went after real skilled basketball players. No athletic project guys like Osifo this year. The skill level and basketball IQ of the team is much higher now.

Most impressive part of his highlight reel below, to me, is at 55 seconds where he is directing his teammates. Not actually a basketball play but it shows understanding of the game and floor leadership.

You're saying he's better than Tre Mann?

By players we lost, I'm talking about transfers. I should have been more clear about that.

Better than Scottie Lewis, too. So yeah... basically better than anyone besides Mann.

He was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the year in both 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, so I'm guessing pretty good.

Great value? Is that what the portal has come to? Soon they will have an expected NIL signing bonus that goes along with the portal rankings. I'm sure schools are learning how to put together NIL packages to lure potential players since Kentucky and Duke were not willing to share their ideas over the last 10 years.

I think you misunderstood. It means Great Value as in a generic copy version of a name brand product.

Standup 101–if you have to explain it, it ain’t funny. And I have no idea what brand is connected to Great Value. Obviously I wish great success at UF for the young man.

    Unnecessarily strong response.

I did not invent this phrase or the use of Great Value in front of a word to indicate a lesser version of something. It's just slang, and a manner of speaking. I did not expect to have to explain it, as most everyone has shopped at a Wal-Mart.

Most curious to see him out of the 4 transfers just because of how vastly his role probably changes from being a super high-volume shooter on a bad team. If he raises his play and improves shot selection with better players around him he could have a great year. I understand that his shot selection was probably a necessity at Charleston Southern but hes gonna have to tone it down here. Not worried at all about his defense transferring to this level and his 3pt shooting should improve to something more in line with his 80% from the foul line with better opportunities created for him

Murphree - Thanks man. Appreciate the insight. Encouraging. Lets hope he is a big contributor.

Like I have been harping - It's all conjecture until the squad hits the hardwood.

Kind of interesting in Football and Basketball this year. Not quite sure what to expect but in these situations I just put on my O&B glasses and hope for the best.

It's not like Gator nation was expecting a championship basketball team in 2006
    either.

Lightning in a Bottle? - Perhaps!!!!!

    Go Gators!!

Thanks. I don’t feel bad about it. Not all people speak the same or know the same phrases. I assumed everyone knew what it meant, since it’s a very common term.

I made this thread to discuss a great new addition to the basketball team. I think Fleming Jr. should be more highly anticipated than he is. If I’m being completely honest, he’s more skilled than KJ. Doesn’t have quite the same speed or bounce, though. It will be interesting to see how his game translates from the Big South to the SEC. He seems legit to me.

KJ is muscular, nearly 4’ of vertical, can finish on a drive amongst any bigs and can shoot the three. Also he is 6’5” warrior. Now if you are comparing this guy to KJ, naw! Do I hope he can do what KJ does, sure. But, show me you got game when Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas are played on the road. We are paper thin when it comes to bigs, just shooting threes and playing defense, is not playing consistent ball to keep you in the top twenty teams in division 1. FSU will come calling early, we get an answer to how this team is going to fare against good teams. For us to get some good exposure in the press, which now is non existent, we have to show we can beat good teams. We need in the press to give weekly and daily reports of what the team is doing. Tell us about an early kickoff to the season and show the fans we need you. Are we so introverted or not caring as to what our fans need and want. Let’s get behind the basketball program. Kudos for taking the time to give us your thoughts on this new player. Hopefully, you have seen him practicing with the new Gator team. Sorry if I am ranting over the men’s basketball program exposure, “the lack of any” !

I agree with you that KJ is proven as a top player in a top conference and deserves the benefit of the doubt that he is better. I can, however, without question say that Fleming is more skilled than KJ. He has a far more sophisticated offensive repertoire and his ball handling is better to the point that it's not really comparable. That does not mean I'm saying he is a better or more effective or better basketball player than KJ. Skill level is not equivalent to on-court ability. And, as we both pointed out, KJ is much more athletically gifted. He's got superior speed, burst, and bounce compared to Fleming Jr., and that's a huge advantage.

I have not seen Fleming play, so I can’t evaluate him. He played on the worst team in one of the worst conferences in the country. He shot 32% from the 3-point line which was an improvement over the 25.9% and 28.9% from the prior 2 years. His overall shooting percentage last season was 39.5%. Maybe, he will turn out to be outstanding this coming season, but I will not be holding my breath.

Yeah I was not enthused on first glance at those numbers but if you look at the difficulty and volume of shots he was taking the picture gets a little clearer, talk about a stagnant offense with no other threats
