Thanks for sharing this. Living in a port city (America's "innermost port city) on Lake Superior, I find these stories interesting. It seems that most shipwrecks on the big lake occur during November. We get big ships into port here and they tend to stop around December. Some years, the entire lake will freeze over. The ice formations can be quite fascinating. We have walked out onto the lake several times and ice fishermen are highly active when the ice is safe. There are many interesting facts about Lake Superior (i.e. it holds 10% of the world's fresh water). Here's a photo of our pup about 100 ft out over the lake.
Off topic, but any idea what the ice on Lake Ontario can be expected to be like the last week of December? Booked a family trip to Toronto this year. Thanks.
I'd bet a pretty large sum there will be zero or very little ice on Lake Ontario, esp. that early in winter. I doubt that lake freezes Have a great time in Toronto. It's a nice city with diversity and some decent food options.
