Grantham seems to be one of those guys like Hoke, Zaunbrecher, and others whose reputation by the fans are worse than the reputations by professionals:

In the last three years, two of our last three defenses had worse total defense and 3d down conversion numbers than in any of Grantham's seasons. This is one of those myths that will never die, sort of like the 20 kittens that would die each game after Zaun would call 20 bubble screens a game (he called 2-3 per game).

 

He's in a great place as far as i am concerned. Gundy/Grantham, a match made in heaven.

 

He was already dead man walking after this last season. I think he negotiated a contract salary reduction.

Hiring Grantham tells me he wants to end his suffering and commit suicide.

Particularly when the team went 110-117-3 (.485) for 20 years prior to Gundy's arrival. And no, the vast sustained improvement wasn't entirely due to T. Boone's money.

"Dead Man Walking" after 20 years of that record? But yeah, it is understandable that after Muschamp, McElwain, Mullen and Napier, Mike Gundy would have been considered a proven commodity...

 

Got to give Grantham credit. He's the only DC I know that can make third-and-29 interesting.

 

Never was a fan, especially after that “choke” move while he was DC at UGA.

 

Reports are that if he didn't take a pay cut he was out.

If you take a minute to think about it, you are probably correct.

 

Do we care? Grantham lives in an RV so moving is not a big problem. Grundy may have to go that route.

What? The same competition Mack Brown and Bob Stoops faced? No, we can't use the easy "they play in the Big 12" excuse. So did Texas, Texas A&M and Mizzou. Compare the two from their conferences to "The Gauntlet!"

There is no dreaded "Gauntlet" coming inside the SEC. A&M and Mizzou got no worse, and 2024 notwithstanding, Oklahoma and Texas won't have that much of a learning curve, either. The entire notion that an X-win SEC team is as good or better than an X+2 win OOC team is ridiculous and is not proven by the statistics.

 

His biggest nemeses in conference have gone and they're worse.
