Add: three games in should dispel any notion that Mertz lacks mobility. I don’t know how the idea took root. His Wisconsin tapes showed plenty of examples of running for first downs, etc. Maybe he was saddled with AAARS - Anyone After Anthony Richardson Syndrome.

There was plenty of warranted skepticism about Graham Mertz coming in and taking over the QB spot before the season. That should all be erased now, imho. He has done a great job in running the offense. He’s smart, doesn’t make big mistakes, takes care of the ball, has a more than adequate arm, throws a really nice ball, moves well and makes good decisions. He’s tough too, took a couple of big shots last night, got dinged up and bloody, didn’t miss a beat. Listening to him in the post-game presser was impressive. He speaks and handles himself very well. He clearly loves being a Gator too. He also talked about how loud the crowd was and how he couldn’t even talk to his coach standing right in front of him.

He’s proven, to me, that he’s a solid SEC QB and will be a very good 2yr QB here. He’s more than just a game manger, that’s a bit of an insult to him, imho.

    * I would petition the op to revise the thread title from ‘game manger’ to ‘appreciation thread’.

My thread title was my attempt at being sarcastic.
Game Manager is a lame term and is really an insult to all QB's.

I’d say he’s a step-up from just managing. Dude made some slick plays.

We needed to commit less penalties. It’s amazing how well the offense works when we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot.

He just needs to hit a couple of bombs against the quality teams.

That’s not what a game manager is. A game manager is a QB that is relatively conservative and doesn’t necessarily beat you with big plays, but plays mistake free methodical football. Game managers don’t take many risks, and are content to protect the football and accept modest gains to move the chains over going after huge gains.

He had both deep routes open on one of the sacks. He needed probably less than a second to see which way the safety committed but he got smashed before it happened. Hard to go deep with a pass rush like that. Good news is he’s perfectly capable of getting the ball out quickly and hitting all the short throws that methodically move us down the field.

Call him whatever term you deem necessary, but that young man has exceeded my expectations since the first game. He’s tough has a good arm, plays smart and has a good grasp of what’s going on around him. Pretty darn satisfied with his play.

Mertz is a product of CBN's offense and not a limited qb. Mertz can do whatever CBN tells him to do. CBN knows he can drive down the field with Merrz effectively so he instructs Mertz to play it safe and wear out their defense. Even in his first year he would be starting and would have beat us last night if he had gone to TN instead of UF. He is just a very good qb. Those drive ending throws from Milton would have been completions. Milton can't run TN's offense nor would be able to run our offense effectively.

Mertz is now 9 on SEC QBR. Something that was a concern for billion dollar fund managers here.

Media says it all. If they could play, they wouldn’t be where they are. They are no different than most of us, they just have an audience.

I like watching the gators with him taking snaps better than gators with ar. Now, if ar had 3 years of starts under his belt and time to get comfy in the offense with a couple years of Billy’s bought in guys on the team, I might enjoy watching ar run the offsense.
    But. . . I digress.
