Just a guess, they probably didn't screen his speech in advance.

I watched a decent chunk of it. He was very diplomatic in what he said on the stage, but the underlying message just doesn't line up with the GOP

High tariffs may be bad for you and me and economically disastrous overall, but the special interests being “protected” by high tariffs may benefit. Alot of them are also truckers which have been involved in right wing activities in Canada and parts of Europe.

It’s crazy in the context of Republican anti-union orthodoxy, but not that crazy in terms of Trumps far leftist trade policy and some of his anti-environmental and anti-regulation stuff which could benefit Truckers. The Republicans are basically ideologically incoherent right now, so no point figuring out a pro-union speaker while some of the governors are rolling back child labor protections or getting rid of drinking water requirements for outside labor. The overall bent of the party is very anti-union, but Trump has some appeal to them. I also wouldn’t discount a mob/corruption angle. I mean…. Teamsters… Trump… come on lol.

Never thought I’d say this, but (with the caveat that tonight’s headliners like Haley and DeSantis haven’t gone yet) I think Vivek Ramaswamy has far and away the best speech of the convention so far.

Teamsters want to send a message to Dems not to take them for granted. GOP (which definitely doesn’t align with unions organizationally on issues like NLRB policy or appointments, but has gotten around 40% of union member votes in the past two presidential elections) get to try to grow that percentage by sending at least some implicit message that it’s okay for union members to support us.

His lack of a forehead tattoo is holding him back there, but IMO yes.

Van Jones (who ranted and raved about her performance last night) is welcome to disagree.

Not sure why you're saying that, but a few comments, FWIW.....

We're giving people a seat at the table. Trump is all about listening to others and giving them a conversation. Not shutting them out because of who they are or who they represent.

If you go to the YT page that video is on and read the comments there....that will give you an idea of how much support the man is getting from those in organized labor.

Also, Sean O'Brien gave an interview with Dana Bash and it was very interesting how much he is giving labor a voice in what and who they want to support going forward. I wish I had it to post here - but it was very enlightening.

    Thanks!

    Watching closely tonight. Spark notes:

Theme: Make America Safe Once Again
    • Secure the border
      • Over 300,000 Americans have died because of fentanyl that came across the border under Biden. There have been US wars with less deaths than that.
      • The amount of fentanyl that has crossed the border under Biden is enough to kill every American citizen.
      • Biden and Harris have allowed human traffickers to traffic children and sex slaves across the border.
      • Biden and Harris allowed ISIS to enter into our country.
      • Biden and Harris helped to create a phone app that allowed illegal immigrants to time their arrival to the US border.
      • Criminals have entered our country who have committed crimes on US soil because they were not properly vetted for entrance into the US.
    • Back the Blue and Fund the Police:
      • Kamala Harris said she wanted to "reimagine policing."
      • She said no more police will help in our communities.
      • Democrats defend and release the criminals.
      • Trump defends Americans from criminals by locking them up in jail.
      • Response times to emergency calls are soaring in American cities.
      • Human feces, needles on the side walk, and tent cities are common in American cities under Biden.
      • Alvin Bragg returns violent criminals to the streets who should be in jail and he needs to be held accountable.
    • Make America Strong Internationally Again:
      • America and the world were safer when Trump was President
      • We were a respected country internationally and militarily when Trump was POTUS.
      • There were no wars under Trump because our enemies feared the person holding the office.
      • Biden begged Iran to reenter the bad Iran deal Trump got us out of.
      • The Afghanistan withdrawal was a disaster and a disgrace for our country.
      • Biden cannot perform the duties of commander and chief and this emboldens our enemies
      • We need to kick China off of our farm land in the US.
    • Unity
      • Nikki Haley: You can support Trump if you agree with him more than you disagree with him. You can support him if you think we need to save our country from a Biden-Harris presidency, which is why she gave Trump a strong endorsement.
      • DeSantis: DEI is Division, Exclusion, and Indoctrination. We beat DEI in Florida and we can bring that victory to the rest of the United States with a Trump victory in the White House.
      • Ben Carson: Democrats divide us along the lines of race, class, and gender rather than uniting us based on what we have in common, which is our humanity and being Americans.
      • Lots of diversity on the stage tonight. There are lots of black and Hispanic speakers that spoke on the stage tonight.
    • God protected Trump
      • Some people simply said God protected Trump (true I think, in a providential sense, although I would not say anything miraculous happened)
      • Others implied God saved Trump because God is going to make him the next POTUS (that is presumptuous IMO, but possibly correct)
      • Others went further and proclaimed blessings and favor from God on Trump (very iffy point here IMO. Not completely false in every sense, but really needs qualification to be a correct statement)
      • Lara Trump: Applied Proverbs 28:1 to describe Donald Trump (cringe).
    • Secure our elections
      • Trump will make all voting in person with voter ID so there is no more voter fraud and cheating in elections.
Also, several people on the stage tonight mentioned the importance of God in our country and our lives.

No doubt both Pres candidates are flawed. But this I know, I was better off and felt better off with DT than with JB. Gas prices better. Grocery prices better. Interest rates better. Border wasn't closed but not nearly the number of illegal crossings that have contributed to rapes, murders, thefts, violence with JB. Seems also things abroad was more peaceful than now.
This still will be a close race. Our nation is so divided that half won't ever vote for DT no matter what, the concern for democrats will be these folk won't vote at all. I think as time goes on nothing JB does will change the opinion of most democrats that JB has the mental capacity to run the country.
Frankly, imo the reason JB was elected president wasn't so much people loved JB but more of a hatred for DT. JB presented himself as a unifier and I think most people were tired of the constant bickering between DT and democrats/media. There is no question that 90% of media was anti Trump and pro democrat.

There was no mention of Project 2025 the entire night by anyone when I was watching the live feed. I’m beginning to think Project 2025 is a lefty boogie man to whip the base up into an alarmism.

What a squish she is. She supports him, then says he is incompetent, then gives him a strong endorsement. I regret ever saying anything positive about her.

My opinion…people on Biden’s campaign team probably crapped their pants when they saw this. You should have heard Van Jones’ comments on it. He said this speech was the biggest threat to Biden and the DNC from the first night:

Although the age of the two candidates may change the norm here, VPs dont really move the needle in who people vote for.
