The Constitution sets forth that the Vice-President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided. It also says that the Senate shall choose their other officers, and also a President pro tempore. As to why, I dunno, maybe just Madison trying to be cute.

Well, if there is no Speaker, and it looks like they don't really want one, there could be a problem if Biden falls off of Air Force One before the stairs are even there, and if something happens to Kamala. I seem to recall that the President Pro Temp (sic) of the Senate, whoever that is, is somewhere in that line of succession.

All I can say is, those people had better look out. I'm sure that Donald Trump has put an X by the name of every Republican who didn't vote for his boy. "I am your retribution."

Because all Democrats are voting together, for Jeffries. But to win, he needs a majority. Since no Republican is voting for Jeffries, he can never get a majority.

And so our Congressman continue to govern for their Party, and not for Country.

In related news, today is Wednesday.

So far he has lost 3 votes that were his yesterday and picked up 1 new vote, for a net loss of 2 so far. We are a little more than halfway through.

This is ridiculous! The fix is in. WHEN I WENT TO BED LAST NIGHT JEFFERIES HAD THE MOST VOTES. He does again today and isn’t the speaker. Let’s all go to the House on November 6, it will be wild.

They have that wonderful Matt Gaetz to thank for all this. Why don't they make him speaker?

Proof of this is that Jeffries had WAY more people than Jordan at his 4th of July BBQ

In the end, Jordan has 22 votes against him and ended with 1 fewer vote than yesterday (after a Republican returned to DC to vote for him).

Thanks. I have to wonder what people like Madison would think of the House of Representatives in the third decade of the 21st century.

Per Paul Kane at the Washington Post:

“Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) set a modern record: lowest vote tally for majority’s nominee to be speaker. Just 199 Republicans voted for him on second ballot. No majority nominee has received less than 200 votes in a really long time.”
