And they are in recess. He has more votes to gain than McCarthy did, although his votes are from far squishier people for the most part.

19 against with 1 who didn't vote for 20. Edit: Actually 20 against with 1 who didn't vote.

Maybe off-topic, were it not for gerrymandering Jim Jordan may have never been elected to the House in the first place. Map of his district.

Lol! So apparently Ken Buck voted for Tom Emmer. He apparently doesn't like Tom Emmer, so people were confused. He explained afterwards that being the Speaker of the House is the worst job in America, so he figured he would give it to somebody he doesn't like.

He must have worked a deal to get some people on a first ballot. Because the talk is now that while he will gain some folks on a second ballot, he will lose some as well.

So far, 200 republicans have voted for Jordan, which casts doubt on whether they will protect Democracy. Are they really so scared of Trump, and hungry to stay in power, that they can’t come up with a more moderate Speaker?

Kudos to the 20 republicans who didn’t vote for Jordan. At least 5 should cast their vote for Jeffries.

You're not making much sense. The dems are not involved in this, i.e., aren't voting. They have offered moderate republicans, i.e., those with principles AND a spine, a bi-partisan proposal to neuter the far right and govern. I'm hoping some of those holdouts will take the dems up on it.

Surely you don't think Jim Jordan is worthy of being House Speaker. Almost anyone is more worthy than him.

So the dems aren’t at all involved in it? Lol. Yes they are. Just like the pubs voting for McCarthy.

The closer he gets to 217, the greater the pressure will be on the hold outs. Time is Jordan’s friend in this. The House needs a speaker and Jordan’s not going to cave.

Lolwut. They aren’t voting “no”, they are voting for their own party leader. Jeffries got more votes than Jordan to be speaker, 212 to 200. I think that happened for a few early rounds of the McCarthy vote-o-Rama as well.

Jordan is a grade A nutbar. It’s pathetic he’s even within 20 votes, especially considering Scalise supposedly tapped out around 150.
