The GOP cares more about the Hunter Biden laptop than they do about the economy

    What an embarrassing s***show.

Republicans oust a speaker that had taken a dozen or so rounds to elect, then blame democrats for their inability to elect another one. Sorry folks, this is a republican problem and it's because they've spent decades cracking the heck up.

Jordan has gone down in a humiliating deafest. After a secret, closed door vote, they have now removed him as nominee. The crazy caucus is now back to square one. It couldn’t have happened to a bigger jerk. Gaetz, who’s largely responsible for this embarrassing shit show, still prances around unrepentant in all his arrogance.

Its amusing that anything thinks this has anything to do with any policies, rather than a bunch of people with no firm beliefs (other than whatever is anti-liberal today), no interest in governing, no real policy agendas to advance or any sense of purpose outside the moment, who also don't fear losing their own elections, all playing out their own personal beefs and animosities middle-school style. You cant really say they are wasting time or valuable legislative opportunities, so what else are they going to do?

If you’re going to go get someone from outside the House, I’m not sure you wouldn’t have a better chance pulling in one of the former Republican politicians from prior to the time politics became an absolute war that beltway Democrats insist they “genuinely like” such as Boehner, and hoping you could peel off enough votes from Dems looking to “restore civility” to the House to make up for the fringe GOPers that you would lose.

Would also be a bit funny for the Gaetz gang to take down McCarthy just to usher back in the “country club Republican” faction that they claim to hate.

Is there any GOP left to humiliate themselves? This is fun.

Candidates who have already said they will seek the job:

    Reps. Austin Scott (R-Ga.)
    Kevin Hern (R-Okla.)
    Jack Bergman (R-Mich.).
    Byron Donalds (R-Fla.)
    Tom Emmer (R-Minn.)

    Considering:
    Jodey Arrington (R-Texas)
    Roger Williams (R-Texas)

Potential Candidates For Speaker Have Already Started To Emerge

The Democrats didn't vote for McCarthy before he did any of those those things, yet people expect them to vote for him afterwards? What a freaking joke.

I'm sure all of our resident republicans now blaming the Dems for this mess (which is happening 100% because McCarthy sold his soul and idiotically gave individual congress members the right to assassinate his speakership on a moment's notice without having a succership plan) were urging Republicans to vote for Pelosi as Speaker in 2012 and 2020 to ensure that our government would function if the far left abandoned her. It's hilarious that some people can contort math that way.

That would be sweet revenge for us moderates.

BTW, to some extent, I enjoy seeing the GOP shoot itself in the foot, a bit of Schadenfruede, but I'd much prefer they govern soberly. I Long for the former GOP, before Gingrich, but with the pernicious influence of social media, I doubt we'll ever see those days again.

I don't know anything about them, but I hope they are moderates, and that both sides become dedicated to working with each other.

I mean, Buck isn't wrong. This is legitimately not a job people seem to be falling over themselves to get. A couple of half-assed campaigns for the position by people that didn't seem to really want it, including the Majority Leader, where they quit almost instantly, and the never-ending humiliation of a guy who is the forerunner of politics as a way to get on Fox News. I don't know that you could talk Boehner into doing it again.

Bring back Bill Clinton as Speaker for the remainder of this Congressional session. Last POTUS to oversee a federal surplus. Understands how Congress works. Worked across the aisle with Republicans (at least eventually). Actually toughened crime legislation, entitlements reform, worked to speed up deportations etc.

Hell, if you laid out his platform today he'd look like a Republican save universal healthcare and abortion (can't win them all, guys).

Might present a constitutional nuance because he was elected twice and would be 2d in line, but I don't think the 22d amendment addresses this set of facts altho there may be the whole "spirit of the intent" thing at play.

Well, 122 R's just threw Jordan out in a secret ballot. Back to Square One.

‘It’s astonishing’: GOP ditches Jordan as speaker pick

"The Ohio Republican is now no longer his party's pick to lead the House, a demise sealed by a GOP secret ballot just after his third failed floor vote as a speaker hopeful."

"In all, 122 Republicans voted to boot Jordan as their party’s nominee, while 86 said he should remain their choice, according to two people familiar with the private discussions. Five members voted present."
