A laughably wrong take, no one "convinced" the democrats to not vote for McCarthy, the democrats already were not ever going to vote for a Republican, as had been the case in these types of votes since forever, from both parties ... the crazy 8s joined the democrats ...

Not only that but if the Republicans wanted McCarthy so bad why didn’t they vote him back in? I think he’s gotten half a dozen votes.

    Tomato/'mater.

Same difference. Gubmnt stuck in the mud, bc someone said no mas drunken sailor spending. Dems maybe didn't realize what they were doing, but here we are.

The irony is that this oughtn't be partisan. The vast majority of Americans should be joining in--holding our elected drunken sailors accountabe to stop the drunken sailor spending.

    Instead, what do we get?

A deafening BIPARTISAN demand that our drunken sailors resume their drunken sailor spending.

Dirty little not so secret. The overwhelming majority of Americans are not against spending by the Federal government, they're only against paying for it. The pre-Reagan Republican party actually supported fiscal responsibility. Beginning with Reagan the party became the party low taxes and borrow and spend. Republicans only sound fiscally responsible when there is a Democrat in the White House.

What a weird effin post. Of all the things to be “sick of it” over something this has got to be one of the most trivial I’ve heard.

This is not calculated to “paralyze” the Republican Party any more than when they unified to vote for Jeffries last time. They’re doing what every political party does and has been doing for our country’s existence, vote for their own. There’s a reason the speaker comes from the majority party. The Democrats have even offered to give powers to the interim speaker, a Republican, so don’t even pretend they aren’t trying to help get Congress moving forward.

There’s only one party at fault here and if they wanted to fix it a half dozen of them could vote for Jeffries and end this.

Me thinks some of them fancy politicians should have taken their shoes off to more accurately count the votes needed.
    And this little piggy goes……

I forget just how creepy he is - I’ve been happy he’s not made much in the way of national news recently. One of the blessings of not living in FL.

....and therefore we should all just STFU, choke on any notions of common sense or fiscal responsibility, go along to get along, send our own drunken sailors to out drunken sailor the other side's...

I guess that's how we got here.

But whenever the issue flares up, I like to do what I can to fan those flames. Maybe one day, fire will catch and burn!

(Far more likely...we'll crash beyond repair, long before that. But I'll never stop hoping, and I'll applaud any sincere efforts to avoid that fate. And this particular farcical episode, how ever poorly thought out, i believe, was at least conceived in that spirit).

Just looked and the most recent poll from Iowa approximately a month ago he is trailing Trump by 30%.

The Democrats don’t like McCarthy because they feel that he backstabbed them. He also allowed a lot of things to happen like kicking senior Dems off committees as retaliation for the 1/6 and Trump investigations. They didn’t vote with those Republicans just to do it… they actually didn’t like what he was doing.

It's not like it wasn't already obvious, but I just hope more Americans realize what a disaster the Republican Party is because of all this. If the country votes in 2024 to keep this sorry bunch of Repubs in the House, then that is a truly sad state of affairs.

Iowa is a caucus state so while I wouldn't say DeSantis is favored, this is a state Ted Cruz won in 2016. Organization can make the difference because its not a straight up popular vote. That's what DeSantis is counting on anyways.

Well...there are always different ways to spin things... I'm opting for genius revolutionary coup d'etat, over 3 stooges/keystone cops stumble into a momentous victory by pure fortunate happenstance!

(....but I'll gladly take the latter, if it results in a working number of hreps sufficient to reign in spending, regardless of party).

Yep, that’s what he did to Adam Schiff. He also kicked a couple of Dems out of their private office near the floor for the same reason. Have no idea if that is SOP or not.

Exactly, so this whole narrative that Dems were just playing politics by voting with Republicans to remove him is dishonest. They didn’t like him, and for good reason. It’s not like he was someone they respected like Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger.

Sometimes when you think the stupidity can't get any higher...

McCarthy dug his own graves with Dems with his 1/6 excuse making and going on TV the weekend before he got booted blaming his problems on the Dems.

The GOP House expects Dems to bail them out while giving up nothing in return. Not how politics works. The GOP either needed to nominate a palatable moderate or meet some Dem demands to get help. They wouldn't do either.

Wait, you think this is because of those folks caring about government spending? That's kind of cute. How many bills supporting the cutting of spending have those 8 put forward?
