I was reading the USA Today writeup of Golden's comments. He mentioned that we have 3 wins that might be Q1 or Q2 and this time last year, zero.
That was an amazing team that went undefeated in the SEC. Sadly, we couldn't beat UConn, losing to them twice
I like pretty much every player on this team. I think they are some really great players. I feel like so far they are underperforming for how good each one of them is individually. I am hopeful that Golden can continue to bring in players like this and that his coaching improves, since he is such a young coach. At least this team is much more fun to watch than what we saw during the White tenure.
Obviously that ‘14 team was something special going perfect through the SEC, but no reason this team can’t be close to that ‘16-17 team. On paper it has all the pieces. Guard play is key though even if you have a great front court, especially at NCAAT time. This team definitely has more front court power than that ‘17 team that made its run sans Egbunu. Our back-court is good, but I guess we’ll see through the grind of conference play and tournaments if they can be consistent and take care of the ball better. Unfortunately the backcourt this year is mostly a one shot deal to get it done (unlike the other teams that got to gel over several years).
If the rotation is C: Handoffen, Condon PF: Samuel, Haugh Then yes, minutes might be tough just because the gap is bigger between him and Samuel than it is for the centers. Maybe he can steal a few minutes at the 3 in a big lineup? Esp if he can shoot the 3. He’s more of a tweener 3/4 anyway to my eyes. Small sample size but his shot looks good when he takes it thus far.
