17 and 8 had really tough days tackling or taking poor angles they took advantage of our DL w counters- poor Jaydon Hill having to deal w the pulling guard all day
Bottom line is, in the majority of games during the BN era, we are getting out coached and outplayed. Especially against quality competition. Doesn’t mean he can’t turn it around, but the doubts are justified. I love some of the things he has done with the organization and caring about the players future, but the product on the field so far has been below average overall. I pray he can turn this around for all involved.
I’ve been gently critical of Mertz’s decision making and I think this continues to be an issue. But the play calling was baffling throughout this game. I do not understand the concept of constantly using Pearsall as a decoy and of running into 8-man fronts. Neither seem to work but it is something the coaches call over and over. Also not a huge fan of all the button plays. They work fairly often but they never result in a big play. Offense seems pretty easy for a defense to figure out.
Not a mod, so take it FWIW... You didnt insult a player, you insulted an entire squad. Not really a problem in my book, but the mods here seem to have gotten a little trigger happy, so plan accordongly.
I don’t think he insulted anybody. The facts are the Gators are ranked at 125th of an offensive flow (seconds taken to run a play) stat in the nation averaging over 30 seconds/play. That sounds real slow, almost sloth-like.
Too painful to re watch. Frankly, its been painful and without changes will continue to be painful. Evidently we have no answer when teams sell out to stop the run. Teams know we are a dink and dunk team on O. I'm afraid the last 6 games of the season will be brutal.
It is a subtle distinction, so I can see how people could disagree. IMO saying they were slow would not be an insult (and would also be accurate.) Meanwhile sloth is a pejorative term, so is insulting. It is a matter of degrees. The OP says he was going for levity, and I can accept that. Humor often involves a degree of hyperbole or bite.
i watched the defensive breakdown video, and he detailed how the first couple of plays should have been like -3 yards but instead they netted 40 positive yards. I decided to just put Ms. Rachel on for my kids and not relive it.
This execution issue is plaguing the both side if the ball at times. It also leads a perception issue wrt the offense specifically. Eliminate consistent success from the argument about the play calling and answer this question how many on here would be content with scoring 31/game with the controlled approach we have? There are those that would argue we need to be able to this that the other bc we can’t win a shoot out with 31/game, right or wrong. Circling back to the highlight analysis. Scheme not withstanding if billy is seeing individual breakdowns and saying we just need improve individual execution, communication, footwork, etc. He isnt changing this year because despite the approach being antagonistic to the fans at UF he believes cleaner execution will net that 31 point number. (reminder the 31 points was hypothetical for the mindset discussion)
It seems that the elite offenses are driven by big plays. I guess we have a few big runs, but…. It doesn’t seem like we could come back against anyone Editing to add, big plays create momentum and emotion.
