Kinda like saying you dont have to be an engineer to note that a bridge failed/collapsed its not rocket science to notice thats it is inoperable i do think commenting on plays that weren’t successful without acknowledging all the moving parts including the role the defense plays is a touch simplistic
"ETGator, post: 15578165, member: 9127"]I've heard Shane be very critical of certain things. I listen to him .. " For all the goods Shane did as a player, he's a pumper and had to be since he now lives in Gainesville... Biased opinions offer very little except for pumpers "I've found and posted another guy who has played and coached. Last year he put side-by-side a Coach Napier play (when the GNFP guy was telling everyone week-after-week Coach ran a "high school offense"), and it turns out the very same play was used by Kansas City on their way to win a Super Bowl..." That's the old myth used by pumpers over and over. Nowadays anybody, even a middle schooler, can copy some plays from Chiefs and/or Dolphins, and use those plays in high school games and wondering why haven't his team won s state championship yet. Lamest excuses, wish being a coach is just that easy, just be a copycat and you'd be champs, LOL BN is mediocre, fired by Dabo and passed over by Saban. I'd like to think they know a thing or two about their assistants. Excuses are for losers, BN's O didn't work well at ULL, didn't work at UF so far and will not work at UF in the future (win championships).
Wow. This has to be some sort of bizarre record. You didn't get a single thing right . . . including how to make a simple reply. LOL!
I had a disagreement with some posters after the first game thread, where these two people were saying the same damned thing to me. I said that our motions and shifts were NFL concepts while they kept saying they were high school concepts... I was vindicated by Herbie and Chris Fowler when they mentioned that our shifts and motions were NFL concepts that made it easier for Mertz to see what type of defense Tennessee was running on certain plays. There are too many people espousing that high school crap here.
Coach Nap was sand bagging that game - which is why I'll pass on watching the vid. Appreciate you posting it though @lizardface - look forward to next week's edition when we start playing those next level plays!
Neither interested in high school or NFL offenses. Spread offenses are what dominate college football. Would love to go back to one of those.
We don't have the spread QB1... we do... with what we have. Unless you're talking about the pro-spread offense that the Patriots used to run with Tom Brady.
with a staff the size of an army, I would hope this is always the case every week. I’m addition, I would hope and expect that they assign analysts in advance to scout and game plan for teams weeks in advance. For example, I would hope some analysts were scouting UK and watching game film of UK starting after week 1, another should be doing the same for Vandy, and Georgia and so on. We have enough staff to scout well in advance at least a little bit vs waiting to game week.
Incredible how many people take these film breakdowns personally, like James is insulting their mother. The whole point of watching film is to find the things you did wrong and correct them. If you do the same damn thing wrong every week, it will be brought up every week. If you do things right, you get a good job, do it again. If you do something above and beyond, he will go out of his way to give praise. The reason there are so many posters who are defending or vouching for James is because we see the same thing week after week. He is not a VFX artist using Madden to make stuff up, it's what actually happened, you can see it. When he gets sarcastic and says things like "they got 9 guys in the box and can you guess what we do" I'm often answering "running the ball." When he points out that Georgia State had over 200 more passing yards against this team 1 week ago, he isn't just making up numbers, that is what happened, regardless of how that makes you feel. I also watch the "other guy" Varnadore and I enjoy his analysis too, neither one are wrong, they are just different approaches. It's nice getting multiple perspectives, people should really try that out. Just having smoke blown up your butt will never make anyone improve.
I put it here this week: Watching Film: Are The Florida Gators Redzone Woes Against Charlotte Correctable? | Swamp Gas Forums
The offense struggled last season with a top 5 pick at QB and a veteran line. The offense is struggling this season, although it’s early. I think we should expect the offense to struggle next season if we have a true freshman at QB. My one issue is that football nowadays seems to favor tempo and passing, 2 things we struggle with.
It would be better if James fave context when comparing different teams output. FWIW Ga St had two passes go for 97 and 78yds accounting for 175 of their 466. Their YAC was 27/243 with the vast amount on just 2 catches. Otherwise their passing similar to our game. FTR I dont see BN throwing from our 3 yd line The above stats isnt for equivalence but to show context or lack of when James chooses comparators.
The new guy knows and explains what is being called and knows and explains why things work, or don't. I've been watching Seth too, I don't recall he has ever claimed to know exactly what every play call is. Did I miss that statement? Does Varnadore have a headset on during the game and thus knows what plays are being called? The second part of that is exactly what GNFP does too. there were multiple well-designed route trees being used . . . and other things the GNFP guy would probably never say. 3rd play reviewed, complemented route progression off things we have shown in the past. 18:20 we run the same thing from a different look, praised again. 32:45 Complements adjustment of adding intermediate route to our 2 WR only shot play to get 15-20 yards. 36:30 compliments UF for taking free 5 yards with CB way off in man. 47:30 compliments route design, Mertz never looks to that side of the field. 50:00 20+ yard completion, "good concept" James doesn't appear to be the only one with an agenda. Edit: Also convenient the D film is not included, which is essentially 30 minutes of James gushing about how great they are playing.
So, the context is Georgia St has a more explosive passing game than we do? Thanks for the context, I now feel even more depressed about our passing attack.
GA States did much better than us for sure. However, some here still claim BN's O is Chiefs or Dolphins, lol
Do either of the podcasters explain play selection/route tree is based on D&D, field position and expected defensive alignment. The tree is sight adjusted at the line based on gfe defensive alignment (real or disguised) this requires potentially 5 guys to plus to “read” cues correctly and make the proper adjustments. Bases on playing time only we have 2 of 5 with considerable game time experience. We are a “young team” by and large. Time will tell if we transition to a more well rounded team. I think we have the “leadership” to make this happen but we need to get healthy at C and remain so to achieve maximum growth in 2023
