Interesting concept. With all the changes and everything going on now, NIL-negotiations-transfers-portal-boosters-etc, do P5 programs need a general manager type now to handle much of this instead of just the HC. Yes, I would imagine some coaches won’t want to give up the power. They should be coaching though, this would be more like the league model. Thoughts?

It’s not terrible as an idea. Based on his personality, Napier might fit the role of general manager better. I don’t want a Muschamp-type hothead on the sidelines or in the press conferences, but I don’t want Eeyore either.

    Makes sense given current trends.

I've basically been saying that we need a Football only AD (plus the other sports AD) to take care of these sorts of things, and to keep lists of players we recruited, especially if they jump into the portal... coaches we might be interested in hiring... everything on players, and coaches at other schools, that needs to stay with the Florida Gators and The University of Florida.

Things a head ball coach or any underling coaches CANNOT take to another school when/if they get fired and re-hired somewhere else. And I still believe in Napier, this hypothetical position, this has nothing to do with him... it's NOT about our coach.

This is a great idea. UF should take the lead and make it happen. (Defined as doing it first before UGA, Bama, Texas, Ohio State, etc. for any athletic department lurkers who may be reading!)

Basically taking the “bag man” and make him official. I like it.

No. HBC always want full control. Never going to happen.

Could be the next evolution, remember Football Coach and AD used to be a combo job everywhere, started to see 2 guys in those jobs in the 70's.

Booster management, long-term planning should be under the purview of the AD and the school is not supposed have any control/say RE: NIL, so that's not applicable.

Just what we need another management person. Might as well spread some more money around. It grows on trees in FL. I'm still waiting on an announcement about an OC.

Growing and investing more in the army, that hasn’t exactly produced much yet. I would invest more into several severely needed upgrades on the coaching staff, see the OL & OC.

The AD has a lot of sports to manage, in addition to football. It makes a whole lot of sense to have a guy more dedicated to the football program, which is the big money maker, particularly in light of the stadium renovations and other capital projects.

While I don't know what is going to happen--if anything--with an OC hire I do know this: our problem in 2023 was our defense, not our offense. If you don't believe me, you either didn't watch any of our games, haven't looked at the stats, or both.

Maybe every player should have their own coach, nutritionist, strength coach, tutor,CPA,and maybe someone to wash their clothes. Good lord it is more than ridiculous already.

And maybe that's just what we need. Is someone to come in and coordinate all these efforts across all these groups and create a cohesive plan. I think that's a lot to put on the head football coach nowadays.
