198.150 having to count trinity's 9.7 on beam. if she is her regular self, 9.9 at least, score is 198.350, guess we are rounding into shape.

The 4th event was the charm for Sloane Blakely. It was the classic of starting bad and letting it bother other events. She'll mature past that with more work. It was a good thing her 9.95 wasn't needed on the floor when she anchored the floor lineup.

Want to see Riley McCusker add an event. Thought my eyes were deceiving me as I thought she was a 9.9 on the bars. Judge 1 gave her a 9.9 and Judge 2 gave her a 9.8. I'm not sure what Judge 2 thought she saw. Judge 2 is also the judge who prevented Savannah Schoenherr from getting a 10 on the bars. Judge 1 gave her a 10 and Judge 2 gave her a 9.9.

Why was Trinity Thomas given a .3 deduction on beam? As it was her move to fulfill her requirement to go down to the beam, I was thinking a .1 deduction. It wasn't pretty, but everything else in the routine was spot on.

    LSU Gymnastics
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No.5 LSU gymnastics team scored a 197.825 in a loss to No. 4 Florida Friday night at Exactech Arena.

The Tigers dropped to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC, while Florida improved to 8-0 and 5-0 in the SEC.
“I was proud of our resiliency today,” head coach Jay Clark said. “It was a crazy environment and our team really responded when they need to. We know how hard it is to win at Florida, but we leave with a really strong road score. We’ll take a couple days off and get back in the gym before a tough stretch next weekend with two meets.”

LSU and Florida were tied at 148.350 heading into the final rotation but the Tigers scored a 49.475 on beam and were unable to keep up with Florida’s 49.800 on floor.
The squad opened the night on bars with a 49.425. Kiya Johnson and Kai Rivers each scored a 9.825. Olivia Dunne posted a 9.90 in the third spot and she was followed by Haleigh Bryant with a career high 9.95. Alyona Shchennikova scored a 9.85 and Sami Durante anchored with a 9.90.

LSU cut into Florida’s lead on vault after a 49.475. Sarah Edwards scored a season high 9.875 and Elena Arenas followed with a 9.85. KJ Johnson matched her career high with a 9.90 and Kiya Johnson set a new career high with a 9.95. Bryant anchored vault with a 9.90.

The floor lineup earned a 49.450 to tie things going into the final rotation. Christina Desiderio opened with a 9.90 and Alyona Shchennikova scored a 9.85. KJ Johnson matched her career high once again with a 9.95 and Aleah Finnegan set a new high with a 9.90. Kiya Johnson anchored the floor lineup with a 9.85.
In the final rotation, LSU showed poise in a raucous environment to score a 49.475. Desiderio, Bridget Dean and Aleah Finnegan all scored a 9.875. Rivers entered the lineup for an injured Bryant in the fifth spot and scored a 9.90. Johnson wrapped up the night with a 9.95 to set a season high.

Some really good questions about the judging. It's so subjective that I'm not sure that in a close meet it's fair at all.

My question is about Megan Skaggs' routines. They might as well put up a 9.875-9.9 before she even starts. With my very untrained gymnastic eye, I don't see any deductions most of the time in her routines. Maybe the starting values are lower. To me, she looks incredible out there. Her routines are good too.

Trinity had completed her most difficult "parts" of her beam routine (not sure of the correct terminology), and they were flawless. She was on her way to a 9.95 or higher until her hand slipped. Vault is coming along. Last night only 1 gymnast's start value-Megan Skaggs- was 9.950 and for the season she's been consistantly scoring 9.85 or higher. As of today, before Saturday and Sunday's meets, Florida has 2022's highest team scores on UB (49.725, 2nd highest score is 49.650 by Oklahoma) and Floor (49.800), and 2nd highest on Beam (49.700, 2nd to Utah's 49.725).

Megan Skaggs' issue is she starts the event lineups. The judges are not usually going to award a score over 9.90 unless they simply have to. It's that subjective judging. Skaggs should be scored based on what she does regardless of her place in the lineup. Most of her performances should be scored at 9.9 and above. Rarely does she do less.

Last week at Michigan on the vault, three gymnasts opened with 10s. The first two were 10s and the third was not. The point is that there are a few judges that will give a gymnast what they deserve regardless of where the performance is in the lineup. Most judges will not do that. That was an historic score at Michigan, but the vault lineup would never have been that high anywhere else, likely .2 lower as a team.

It was only the 2nd time in NCAA history that the 1st gymnast in a lineup scored a 10.000 (UCLA Beam 2020 was the 1st). So you are correct in your assessment. I would hope since her Vault has a 9.95 start value, they (the judges) would be less reluctant to give her a perfect 9.95 score. According to the commentators, Megan's vault is textbook perfect in the air with toes pointed and legs together, so as long as she hits her landings with both feet planted without the slightest movement forward or backward or hop, and her chest up, as long as she does this, IMO she will eventually score 9.950. But you can bet the house that the judges will be looking for any possible deduction with every gymnast at the top of each routine's lineup.
NOTE- I watched the UCLA-Utah meet when the 1st gymnast scored a 10.000. Although there was deservedly no deductions in her routine, however compared to the rest of the lineup, her routine was by far less difficult. Unfortunately in college gymnastics, a deduction is a deduction. You can raise your start value by adding something that's in addition to the requirements, like Vault, but the deduction will remain in the final tally.

uf should lead off with trinity thomas at uk to completely destroy the judges ability to score lower at the start and raise scores going deeper into the line up. it would put farce judges publically on display.

UCLA Gymnastics@uclagymnastics·18mThe Bruins persevered through a challenging meet to score a season-high road total of 196.850 at Stanford. Seniors @SamanthaSakti and @kendalposton anchored the final rotation, matching their career-high beam scores of 9.95 and 9.9, respectively.
