We were a year removed from probably being the best team in the country. Had a bad season after that, but returned DFS, had a McD AA in Hill, had terrific sophomore class of Chiozza, Robinson, and Francis, and had commits from Allen, Dickerson, and Hayes. Bulk of that group gave White his best season with a 4-seed and trip to the Elite 8. I am no Mike White-basher, but he inherited a much better roster than the one he left Golden. That was hardly a program in decline.
Not really. And what's even more impressive, is if you go forward one more year to 2014, UF becomes the most successful College Basketball Program IN the Country from 2000-2014 with the 2014 Final Four Team. Does that make UF Basketball Royalty? It does in the 21st Century. And for the first 15 years UF was King.
Transfer Points? Just 3 of White's transfers to UF last season averaged over 52 ppg. Fleming-20 McKissic-17 Jones-15 He brought in a more highly touted recruit here than Lindsay by a fair amount. And where did all that get White? A job at the Hoops armpit of the SEC, with a pay cut.
Good lord how does @wingtee disagree with this? You named several key players Donovan left White which also happened to be the core of his only deep run in the tourney. Man enough with the Gators ran Mike White off stuff. Several here supporter White till the end but realized it was time for change. Golden has me reinvigorated about Gator basketball. He embraces our expectations and seems to have a coherent plan going forward. Time will tell. Goldens enthusiasm has me interested despite all of this NIL and transfer crap. Here's to looking forward
Good info. In watching some of the video Mr. Fawcett provided, it looks like Mr. Lofton excels in Princeton backdoor cuts. Which is something I love. I presume that Mr. Golden will tailor the offense to the personnel he's able to assemble for this season.
He’s not a good coach, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get Georgia to having winning records on a regular basis or even get into NCAA tournaments.
I’m interested in your take on the most overpaid SEC coaches. The conference has some guys making a lot more than what they are putting on the court, IMO.
Kinda where I am. Good recruiter, great person, but not a good coach. Not a bad coach necessarily, but nothing about his schemes, strategy, game management, or personnel usage or development ever stood out to me. We
Hey buddy . . . . ya gotta watch that day drinking. White took over a program that had three elite eights and a final four in its last five years. The one year drop off was not a trend. On another note, whadda ya think of coach Golden and the way the roster is coming together? Are you stoked or what?
I’m not sure there are any bad coaches in the league right now. Even White, in my opinion, is not a bad coach when you favor in recruiting/roster building. I don’t know what these guys are getting paid.
I don’t know how I feel about the new coach. I know MW left us but he was run out . White could recruit and was getting some dudes in here . Golden hasn’t really wowed me . Hope he can bring in some players . So far jury is out . Obviously I was a believer in MW
White could recruit and couldn't coach. Golden now has 11 solid players on the roster. It looks like we get Kugel if he can qualify and Golden almost certainly will add another big. We should be better at every one of the 5 positions on the floor with tons of depth and a helluva coaching staff. I was hoping that the Gators would hire Anthony Grant, but I am sold on Todd Golden.
Dr.. it’s pretty tough to lose the best player in the conference for the last 2 years . If KJ didn’t have the issue UF could possibly made deep runs in both years which possibly would yield better players wanting to come here . So we were handicapped both physically and psychologically. Coach White had what I called “Zook Luck”
Good looking guy there ! And can still kick a bunch of ass ! We will have to compare our Florida Letter Jackets one day. What years did u play at UF again?
