Georgia had Muschamp and Schumann as co-Dc's. Think at one time they had Lanning, Muschamp and Schumann all on staff together. And Kirby has his little paw prints all over the defense. Don't think you can have too many good coaching minds on staff. Screw titles.

I was a greeter at the Dunnellon Walmart for one year. I would wager my experience was perhaps more physically challenged by shoplifters than you.
I enjoy humor. Sometimes the board needs it. Don’t personalize Super. Not appreciated. After we become friends later, I am certain it will be much better.

I remember when Todd Haley was touted as one of the top OC in the NFL, even got a shot at HC. Yet he had NEVER even played the sport before. And he excelled as a coordinator, yet some are up in arms about a young coach who played the position in college and pros, is the son of a well known college and pro Coach, has been mentored by 2 of the greatest coaches ever, and hasn't a bad thing mentioned about him anywhere I can read, but here we are stressing because of the "CO" lol

It's a safeties coach. I doubt he is going to have any say in how the defense is ran

Every head football coach should live by that principle.

No doubt Billy deserves every benefit of the doubt on Defense, he has proven 3 years running to put a good unit on the field. (Sarcasm) Yall are hilarious.

I agree completely with this take. But I haven’t seen Billy show the aptitude to identify that person.

Patrick Toney- young up and comer a failure at UF.
    Austin Armstrong - same.
    Sunseri? Remains to be seen.

someone posted earlier in this thread that Bellichik (the younger) didn’t take Sunseri to NC with him from Washington. Does Napier have more insight on Sunseri than Bellichik? Is Napier just superior to every other head coach in identifying young talented coaches before anyone else and elevating them at the appropriate time and thus he is a genius compared to his peers? I suppose this is possible.

More likely Armstrong and Toney were not ready yet to be DC of an SEC team. Maybe they would have been more successful after several more years honing their crafts at lesser roles (position coaches- like Saban hired AA for vs a DC role; or DC at a non SEC school for several years). Maybe they will excel later in their careers as DCs. Definitely possible.

Identifying young talented coaches and hiring that talent is critical. But it is also important not to elevate that talent into roles they may not yet be ready for.

My opinion…and it’s my opinion - too many coaching hires Napier has been making were not UF ready/championship program ready.

Patrick Toney, Austin Armstrong, Russ Calloway, Sunseri, Tyler Miles.

Penn state loses their DC and they steal Ohio States DC (one of the best in the game) by making him the highest paid DC in the country. That is a power move being made by a program trying to win a title. I don’t expect UF to do this when replacing every assistant coach. But seems to be big differences in what we are hiring vs other top flight programs. I can’t recall a single new assistant we hired over the past two seasons that was considered an awesome hire by the industry and someone coveted by other staffs but we won the battle to hire them. (Doesn’t mean they aren’t good coaches or doing a good job). As stated, earlier, I find it difficult to give Napier the benefit of the doubt that he is better at identifying coaches than every other head coach is.

hopefully Sunseri does a great job coaching and recruiting for UF. I’ll be rooting for him.

Didn’t realize this was happening, thanks for posting about it. I’ve been following the Jim Knowles saga. It appeared Oklahoma was going to poach him, now I know why they didn’t. Wowzer, what a power move by Franklin and Penn St, they’re going all in.

You just said you weren't questioning him being the safeties coach just the "CO-DC" now we say the CO-DC means nothing more than an assistant to the DC and you still have an issue. So which is it?

Note that Neither of the CO-DC's at Bama have been a DC prior, same with Texas' "defensive passing game coordinator" (which is basically what Vinnie will be), yet those guys still got an opportunity. Hell Tosh lupoi went from defensive analyst 1st year at Bama in2014 to Co-DC in 2016. He's done alright with the opportunity even if tho no one ever thought of him as or believed he had the responsibilities of a DC.

Sunserinis the safeties coach with an additional title. Can anyone, with out Google name the CO-DC'S and CO-OC's at Oregon, Ohio state, Texas, Bama, Oklahoma, etc? Most are not household names. If it were for the DC position, we would be having a different discussion, but as I have glanced at other coaching staffs it is apparent that adding CO-coordinator and passing /running game coordinator to coaches titles is a very common practice.

In regards to his hiring, I believe hiring old retreads, or coaches that have proven to not have either the desire to ascend the coaching ladder or proven they can fail just as likely as succeed would be being scared to hire your potential replacement vs hiring someone who very well may turn out to be a future stud coach. When a coaches journey begin it's all about potential and opportunity,

Those titles are usually given as a sweetener or to justify a salary slot. Heck, maybe his jax st contract has an out if he gets a p5 coordinator title.
Who really cares, he's not calling the D just like Rob Sale isn't calling the offense

Uh, the post I responded to is YOU talking about Billy D and Todd G....so exactly who was on a soapbox about other sports hires?
And I'm not sure how many times it takes to get thru to you that this hire isn't going to be calling the D.

You are comparing Billy to Nick Saban. I was making the point Billy hasn’t proven to be as good at hiring.

I was responding to someone else saying those were unproven hires. I didn’t start that idiotic conversation. Nor am I saying Sunseri is calling the defense. In fact never once have I typed that. That wasn’t even part of the point I was making.

We need a new Head Coach. So you make a solid point. A coach like Knowles would never agree to work for Billy.

I actually never even brought up CBN.that was you, I've only mentioned Vinnie and the 2 HOF coaches worked and played directly for. I would imagine those guys seen something in him. In fact have you found anything negative about Vinnie from any relevant person? I imagine the guy came with terrific references and recommendations.

Yeah his former DC didn’t want him at North Carolina with him and his former HC didn’t elevate him to DC when the current DC left. I can read between the lines others seem to avoid because it hurts there narrative.
