I wouldn’t get hung up on the CO-DC title. It seems like he will be mostly coaching safeties.

Played position at Bama and worked under Belichick at Pats and Huskies. Good Safety coach pedigree

Then why give him a CoDC title except to justify the money? Napier makes some weird calls with his staff hires. Can we act like a big time program for once and not bargain shop?

Patrick Toney = Austin Armstrong = vinnie sunseri?

why he needs a co-dc title to leave Jax State of all places as a justification for more money. How does he even deserve the extra $ to begin with? Fighting with Jax state over compensation for a coach?

he may be good. I don’t know. But I don’t see how consistently hiring “up and comers” at UF is necessary vs hiring well established coaches who have proved it over time.

This guy will have 0 impact on whether we are good this season or not. Don't stress this hire too much.

Oh, it doesn’t stress me. I hope he does well. I would have preferred to have pulled in a major co-DC (or new position coach) with a long history of top shelf defenses. I don’t see why UF has to keep hiring potential vs proven track records.

Interesting analytic but is that to say our new Co DC was responsible for those metrics?

Why not hire guys who would have an impact? Billy definitely likes to hand out titles.

    Omnipresent
Things I like - continuity of staff for the most part, coached a pretty good Washington defense with our current defensive backs coach so there is some continuity there and I’m sure he got a good recommendation from him and our defensive back. Coach deserve to be in the Conversation for assistant coach of the year with the improvement across the board and what he did once we were decimated by injuries so I’ll take his recommendation
he’s young, which is good for connecting to young players and I get so tired of retreads… I’d much rather see us give a shot to a young guy who ends up being a superstar, then keep rehashing the same dudes who are good for a year and then crap out after a year (ala Grantham, Bates etc),

negatives - not proven in sec. We’ve seen this route work for Billy and we’ve seen it fail miserably
Still not budging on the 2OL /no OC model that has shown ZERO payoff in championship level football. There is no statistic you can point to that says Billy is a good OC. I have come around on efficacy of style after Notre dame, Penn state etc had playoff success… but playcalling itself is bad. I know we’ve beaten a dead horse on the OC thing but it really breaks my heart that we have DJ freakin Lagway, Tre, VB3, Dallas, mizell, Tank. Abrams for a couple years and we aren’t going to get the ball to them cuz we’ll be running 2Te sets and not even using the TE. Drives me nuts
