Thought a running thread of gators who make it would be good over the next few weeks.

Swimming has started, top 2 in each event go. Kieran Smith, junior at UF, just qualified in the 400 free (UF had three of the last 8).

edit: here is who I can see has qualified for Tokyo as of 6/27. I am almost surely missing some international folks and some trials might not be over, but UF will have a list at some point too. I count 20 as of now (22 including the gymnastics alternates) in 2016 there were 30.

Edit 6/29 - added Eric Friese and Raegen Rutty - she is a UF student who doesn’t even compete for UF and made it anyway!

Edit 6/30: Added Marife Torres for golf

Edit 7/2: Added Mark Kolozsvary for baseball and Amro Al-Wir for swimming, Yanis David for France long jump

Edit 7/4: Added Sani Brown and Jasmine Moore for track
Edit 7/10: Added Lloydricia Cameron, Eddie Lovett and Doneisha Anderson for track.
Edit 7/19: Added Gregg Troy and Maria Vucenovic, and UF’s write up:

Smith looks unbeatable. Could be multiple medals for him in Tokyo. Keep him off the scooter please.

yeah he looked great in the 200 free tonight, good shot to get his spot there tomorrow.
Clark Beach missed the finals of the 100 back by I think .07 seconds.
Caleb swam the 200 free in the morning, had a great time but scratched from the semis, I think he just wanted to get a race under his belt before his important ones. 100 free, 50 free and 100 fly.

Kieran Smith qualified in the 200 free. That will also put him on the 800 free relay, so he is swimming at least three events at the Olympics.

Caeleb Dressel won the 100 free tonight and made the team. Still several other events for him too.
And current gator Bobby Finke won the 800 free to make the team. So three gators so far with more who have shots.
Natalie Hinds has a decent shot in the 100 free tomorrow night. She went to UF, got a job in Atlanta and decided to swim again, so she wears a Georgia cap now when she swims, makes it harder to root for her :).
Ryan Lochte will swim for a spot on the team tomorrow night in the 200 IM. Kieran Smith is in that final too.

In swimming, Natalie Hinds didn’t make an individual event, but she did make the 4x1 relay team tonight, so she is going to Tokyo.
Kieran Smith missed making the team in the 200IM by .23 seconds, but he obviously will still be swimming plenty. Lochte didn’t make the team.
Dressel swam the fastest time ever on American soil in the semis of the 100 fly, he will go for Tokyo in that event tomorrow.

Track kicked off today too, all three gators who ran the 400 at NCAAs made it out of the first round. Ryan Willie on the men’s side and Taylor Manson and Talitha Diggs for the women. Interesting side note, they mentioned today that not only does Diggs have several Olympians in her family, her grandfather is Joe Clarke, the guy the movie Lean on Me was based on. So there’s that.

yep, his event hasn’t started yet.

today in swimming, Caeleb qualified for Tokyo in the 100 fly. He made the finals in the 50 free (with the fastest time) as did Adam Chaney. Will Davis was one spot out of advancing.
In the 1500 free Finke had the best semi time, Gravley also made the final, so two there too. These are the last two events of the meet for gator swimmers.

In track, there was a Jeff Demps sighting. He was in the 100 but didn’t advance. Grace Starke advanced out of her prelim in the 100H. Manson made the final in the women’s 400, Willie finished one spot out of advancing, Diggs didn’t advance out of hers either. Corey McGhee made the finals of the 1500, Will Claye the finals of the triple jump.

To close out swimming, Dressel won the 50, Finke won the 1500. Gators won all 6 freestyle events, the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500. Great pub for the program all week, lots of positive stuff from the broadcast crew. Helps that we had a former UF swimmer on that group as well.
So in the end 4 gators go for the US, Dressel, Finke Hinds and Smith.

well….10.48 I think? The only guy he beat out of all the heats tripped over himself half way down the track. Jeff might have pulled up though when he realized he was out of it.

Relatively big upset, but Cory made it in the 1500. Ran a PB to get there, congrats Cory!
