Now that's a good explanation but it sounds like there's still an incentive to pile on the points in an already out-of-reach game.
By 2013 Gators, I think you're referring to the 36-3 team?

is there a spread on tonight's game? I said 40 because that is about the KenPom difference in rating between Florida and FAMU

Yes you are absolutely correct that leaving your starters in the whole game should result in a higher KenPom rating. There are a couple of football models that remove garbage time from their inputs. This requires a somewhat arbitrary definition of garbage time, but I do think these models are improved by including this adjustment.

And by 2013 team, I actually mean the one the year before the 36-3 squad. They have sort of slipped out consciousness, but for me, the 2013 team stands as one of the biggest bummers in Gators sports. That group all out mauled teams. Then Yeguette went down, and they had a forgettable end to their season. Such a shame.

In notable games so far, Virginia beat Villanova (neutral) with Tennessee (neutral) up next while Wake beat Michigan (neutral) and lost to Xavier (away).

The 36-3 team was one that I had in mind when I mentioned great teams that didn't always produce huge margins of victory. That team was great defensively and very deliberate offensively. Almost always won but not by blowouts.

Indeed that team was pretty similar, and their KenPom rating was almost as high:

    2013: +31.18 (2nd ranked), tempo: 61.9 (280th)
    2014: +28.57 (3rd), tempo: 61.3 (318th)

All 16 SEC teams are currently in the top 68 ranked teams. That means if the field of 68 was based solely on rankings, as of now every single SEC team would be in the NCAA Tournament. Crazy. Clearly the best conference in college basketball (and football and all sports)

If the NET didn’t change, which obviously it will substantially, we’d have 13 Q1 opportunities left. Crazy.

The strength and depth of the SEC is incredible this season. Never seen anything even close to it.

The Arizona State game has quietly risen to become our top OOC game. Didn't expect that either.

I have to think that the UNC semi-away game will be tougher.

ESPN matchup predictor agrees. 75% chance for ASU, 49% for UNC.

After double-checking, I see that according to polls, yeah, UNC is the tougher game. I somehow thought ASU had a higher computer ranking but I see that it is actually Arizona.
