She did a lot through the 90’s, but around 2000 she got arrested for lewd acts on an underage girl and that mostly ended things for her. It’s funny though, I don’t remember the booing from that show and I was there. I think it was cold though. And I do remember Richard Jeni doing the National Geographic Explorer theme like 8 times.
You're right. I tried to remember who she opened for. It was very cold. Surprised you don't remember the booing as it was the most memorable thing from Growl that year.
Saw Carrot Top and Dave Chappell before he hit it big. Both were hilarious. Really great sets by both and out shined the headliner that year ( I think was Ray Romano who was boring/terrible). Only time I remembered going as a student.
I love both. Nothing to do with Gator Growl or Homecoming . . . but Robin Williams' half-brother was my physics teacher in high school. He didn't really look like Robin Williams, except sometimes it snuck out. You could tell intelligence ran in that family. PS -- Caddyshack! Golf . . . Rodney . . . Bill Murray . . . and Chevy Chase! Regular discussions will now resume . . .
I was also there for those two and lucky enough to also see Robin Williams, who was absolutely hilarious. My sides hurt for two days after that one… And Bill Cosby (before we found out he was creepy)
Ray Romano headlined one year with a whole set about family/being a Dad, and he was a complete snooze who got destroyed by before they were famous Dave Chapelle and Carlos Mencia. I think Larry the Cable Guy was the MC at that one too, back when he just a radio jock.
I've been in comedy clubs where the opening act was way better than the headliner. Saw Martin Lawrence at Charlie Goodnights in Raleigh and some old lady I'd never seen before and have never seen since blew him off the stage. It must suck to be the star and have some unknown leave everyone talking about her and note how you weren't all that.
The worst possible coach, on so many levels. During his era, we should have dominated the state and SEC, but he blew it, big time.
One year we had the most players get drafted from one school, 10 of them, by the NFL and only won 6 games.
Gator Growl - Wikipedia List of performers. Sinbad was my freshman year. Only one I attended. Don't remember much about it, to be honest.
And the response was getting a bored Bob hope the next year who was more interested in filming an entrance with 80 thousand fans than in being entertaining.
Lucky to have been there during Gator Growl's heyday & to have experienced Halloween Ball before it was shut down.
