It’s embarrassing (for the team) how many times a game we strike out and how routinely our opponents pick up an extra base (including home plate) on our outfielders approach and arms.

Come on Gator Baseball—hold yourselves up to your own standards.

Last year the team struck out 569 times in 71 games. That's 8 K's per game. This year, they've struck out 355 times in 38 games. That's 9.3 K's per game. I thought they struck out too much last year, which they did. But the difference is they were winning anyway. This year strikouts have increased some, but I think it seems worse because we're losing a lot more games.

Well said. The lack of quality AB’s is scary and, we are always behind.
I guess one possible last night would be that everybody together combined pitch an excellent game, which has been rare

I’d have 3-4 guys with locked positions:
    Ty
    Jac
    Shelton
Donay- yep- Brody. Has come a long way and is hitting almost 280. Take his light tower power, and the fact that he is improving as a catcher and we keep him in the lineup.

After those four, I would make everybody else battle for a position day-to-day until they start putting back on ball and putting together quality at bats.

Robertson and Guy- I’d bunt them 2 times a game.

Wilson and Russell- Bunt a ton. They are a combined three for 29 right now

Albert would be my 2B at least part time.

I haven’t seen anything in print. I do know that last night after he got hit the training staff had his forearm wrapped in ice—so hopefully that is what he’s dealing with and he didn’t get struck on his pitching hand.

    No
Just saying if he plays, needs to bunt. mikey by far the starter but Mikey needs to bunt 1-2 times a game. I know you get the point we have to start fighting and having quality at bats. I’ll take a bunt that we get down even making an out all day long because in order to throw a good college athlete out the defensive team needs to do a couple of things correct and that doesn’t always happen. Whereas those continued strikeouts just make it easier on the other team

Yeah, much better on the forearm I would guess then the pitching and for a lot of reasons just hoping no hairline fractures or anything like that

Shelnut is something of a forgotten man, in spite of keeping a good BA, leads the team in doubles, 3rd in HR, 4th in hits and runs. His defense is solid- not spectacular, but better than Thomas at 3rd and anyone else who has played LF this year. A lot of us look for spectacular play, but he's the sort of competitor who fills out a top team.

I wouldn't put him at 3rd, nor Thomas. The reality is this team does not have a quality 3rd baseman. For instance, whatever happened to John Martinez? Not that he is quality yet but never got a chance. Is he injured for the season, so sort of head case? Sully still has the exact same lineup for game 3 at Vandy as the day before. I guess we can only hope for Cags to have his best day ever on the mound or expect the same results as yesterday. Its getting beyond frustrating. Sorry I'll step off my soap box for now.

Mummau and Martinez are the 2 guys that I thought played well in fall and preseason and haven't gotten a chance. Everybody else has been given a shot

Portal moves will be very interesting in the off season and O'Sullivan needs to hit it HARD!!!

I wonder if Sully will make the switch to Cags going on friday night next week at ARK. That will be the best week to do it, since Cags just pitched on Saturday.

I also might suggest Jameson for Saturday. He's been our second best pitcher. Then go TBD on Sunday. If we don't need Neely in relief on Friday or Saturday he could then start on Sunday, but he would be there for a crucial save if needed. If he's used to close out a game, then start Fisher, Peterson or Coppela on Sunday.

Cags is valuable at first base, but right now he'd be a lot more valuable on Friday nights. This will be especially important if we sneak into the tournament. We won't have a game three if Cags doesn't pitch one of the first two.

The problem is the rest of the players 'battling' for positions are simply not SEC caliber players. I told everyone at the beginning of this year we were in dire straights with Thomas at 3B and Robertson in CF. Little did I know how poor our transfers and freshman hitters would be. We have no depth or anyone remotely close who can step up.

As I've said in earlier post, unless we hit goldmine with transfers, next years lineup will be much worse than this years.

Both softball and baseball need to add experienced pitchers in the portal.

Next year the softball team have 2 VERY experienced sophomore pitchers, plus another sophomore with tons of potential who has seen some quality action this year. And we have another 5 star pitcher coming in as a freshman.

Assuming they all come back, I agree softball should be in pretty good shape. Landing an ace in the portal would be awesome, but I don’t see it happening for a multitude of reasons.

Baseball needs a full weekend rotation, bullpen, and a handful of bats, lol.
