    That's a great list!

#7 especially grabs me. I feel good about the frosh pitcherss who looked strong in the fall, but I'd more or less forgotten about Clemente and the Bean. If those two are ready to go, my confidence jumps.

Almost hard to believe D1 still lists Coppola in their top 100 juniors. I really hope for everyone here he actually plays up to his ability this year.

If he gets back to form could you imaging having to face Coppola and Cags in the same weekend.

I just hope Jac has improved his efficiency so that he can go deeper into games. We don't need our bullpen stressed like he did to them last year. When he's on, he's great - but the control went away in a heartbeat and never came back much of the time. Need that leap of consistency from last year to this.

His control looked better in the fall to me, but he was only pitching an inning or two, and none of those outings were real games, even the exhibitions.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. Cags was better in the fall but its a small sample size. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but I'm more confident in Jac going into this season. But that's the concern isn't it. Will he hold up for the season? That said I'm still not sure how the weekend rotation will end up, only know Sully has given the Friday nod to Jac coming out of the fall. Sully would be crazy not to.

And this ought to get some of you talking. Here's Nick's writeup with his guesses on the weekend rotation.

    Predicting Florida’s weekend rotation | GatorCountry.com

    Predicting Florida’s Weekend Rotation
    Friday: RHP Brandon Neely
    Saturday: LHP Cade Fisher
    Sunday: LHP Jac Caglianone

Plus Nick gave some insight on Coppola.

    Redshirt Sophomore LHP Piece Coppola

The 6’8 southpaw hasn’t pitched for the Orange and Blue since making his one start for Florida on the first Sunday of the season back in 2022, battling several injuries that have sidelined him since. However, Coppola is easily one of the more talented pitchers Florida has on their roster. Prior to injury, Coppola’s name was on many future MLB draft boards. Coppola didn’t pitch in fall ball as he was going through a throwing program. If Coppola does return and is fully healthy, he is talented enough to crack Florida’s weekend rotation. However, this is a move that would likely happen closer to the end of the season as he’s still looking to get back on his feet after missing two years of baseball.

    My comments....
I'm a bit surprised on his pick of Neely since he came in so many times as the closer in the fall. I get his plan to leave Cags as the Sunday guy because he is a two-way player. We will see but I suppose Sully could flip the same script and use Cags on the mound Friday, rest him as a DH on Saturday, and play him at first on Sunday. The pitchers on here should have a better say on that. I wish Nick could have given us some better inside info on Coppola if his throwing program is on schedule and what that schedule is. Feel free to chime in.....

I agree with keeping Cags on Sunday. Pitching will tire your legs and need that to hit.

It is rare for sully to put in a freshman right into weekend rotation. I think Timmy manning started in weekend but fuzzy memory there.

It surprises me with Neely in the Friday slot. Absolutely nothing against him but it’s obvious to me that his future in pro ball will start out as a situational reliever—and possibly grow to a closer role from there.

That said, why not leave him in the closer role that he did well in and continue to polish his game.

Right now I would say Cade Fisher/Friday, Liam Peterson/Saturday, and
    Jac Caglianone/Sunday.

I think the coaches would really prefer Neely as the closer. A buddy of mine talked with one of the coaches that works with the pitchers during fall and his response was- if you ask brandon, he’s a starter. If you want my opinion, we’d like him in a similar role as he was in last year-

He was given some assurances to keep him here. At minimum, I think he’s going to begin the season as a starter. Sully told us last year that Brandon came in as a starter, and that he’ll leave as a starter. They’re gonna try to make it work.

    @paidinfull

I understand the sentiment and emotions for what has happened and been said. I’ve actually lived it myself. When you’ve been a starter the bulk of your career—that’s what you want. But there is an unsurpassed feeling when the bullpen gate opens and you hear the ballpark erupt as you enter with “Hells Bells” accompanying you.

However, what matters at this stage of his baseball life I would like to think is his future career.

I feel like the assurances you are talking about were the “you move to closer for me now (last year) and you can go back to starter next year”…..Emotions play a huge role in these decisions. “We need you” may power that move again.

It will be what it is and truly I have no problem with it either way. Wishing Brandon and the Gators nothing but success.

I would like this as long as Peterson is ready. I didn’t see any of fall ball, so he’s a wildcard to me.

Similarly, since no one is even mentioning Slater, I’m guessing he’s not in the running for a weekend slot.
