Sorry it wasn't directly baseball but I noticed you did agree with it. LOL
I can have solace in that.

In the Sat game thread gator1977 said...
Its a great point that makes me wonder about last night. I didn't want to put this notion in the game thread and get everyone all out of whack. Neely was a key starter last year and had to take on a closer role this year. Cags just had his worst day last Sunday after several other uninspired appearances that made folks, like me, wonder if Neely should go back to a weekend starter spot. After the FSU game the news came out that Cags still needed to be the Sunday starter. Was Neely impacted by this hopefully opportunity that got squashed again? I'm not saying Neely botched the game on purpose or any nonsense like that. But his worst performance of the year did follow a rollercoaster of emotions about his future potential. Time will tell where Nelly's head is at after all of this.

His role is just as important as a starting role. Maybe more important, because he has influence in so many more games. Not being a starter here doesn’t mean he can’t be a starter in the bigs either. Dunning moved through the minors as fast or faster than any of the other guys on that team, and he’s a potential starter in the bigs. Rangers plan to start the season using him in long relief, but have said he’s a starter, and may move back to a starting role during the season.

He’s going to be asked to play many different roles in his career. If he shits the bed anytime there’s rumors of a potential role change, he’s going to have a short career. *not implying I think this is what happened or what will happen in his career. I think he just had a bad night, and that happens. He also didn’t get a ton of help from his d*

On a positive note, I have to say how impressed I was with Waldrep's performance tonite vs Ga. He didn't get the win, but 7 solid inn and only 1 run on 3 hits. Second outing in a row he's gone 7 and saved the pen. Finally pitching like I thought he would.

Also, Sproat gave us 7 solid in game 1 and probably deserved a better fate. He gave up 4 earned runs on only 3 hits in 7 inn for a game ERA of 5, but that was a great example of how one stat does not say how well he pitched. Sadly, he didn't get the win either.

Have to hope Cags can give us anything close to these last two days. Its important all of our starters become more consistent with a trip to South Carolina next week.

Winner by Robertson, sounds like a new NIL line of clothing.

  13. I mean Neely is pretty clearly in line to start next year. He had a bad game, for better or worse he took his emotions out after the apperance. Mariano Rivera blew 80 saves when he was considered the best closer in the game. It was just a bad outing. Just need to limit that outing to a one off, the best in any profession shake off those bad games (pitcher, qb, etc). No one can have success every time at this level no matter what.

Time to go back to Langford and Cags at 2/3 IMO. Our offense hasn't been clicking since moving them up. Halter, Kurland or Robertson at lead off.

I'd really like to see what happens if Rivera moves to the lead off. I get his bat protects Cags but at least all three would still be together. Rivera has the closest numbers to Langford getting on base and he is the best base stealer on the team. Langford in SEC play is only hitting like 250. The other hitter I'd consider moving to lead off is Halter. In SEC games he is our 3rd or 4th best hitter. Either way I agree it's time to shake up the lineup.

I get all of that. A lot of what was in my post had to do with the post I was responding to questioning whether Neely was in the right headspace because of rumors of a potential role change. I said there’s going to be lots of role changes throughout a career and if that is what caused the poor performance, that’s not a good thing. I don’t think that’s what happened. I think the kid just had a bad night (plus a couple plays where his d could have helped tremendously and didn’t get it done). It happens to everyone.
