Is there a website that has a database of all the players in the portal that isnt behind a paywall?

Picked up Colby Thomas from Mercer (outfielder)
    .325 BA
    17 HR
    45 RBI
    .451 OBP
    32K/34BB

Looks like he really struggled down the stretch and didn't play after May 7 due to a torn labrum. Also appears to be highly regarded as a draft prospect.

Just noticed that a catcher at West Virginia entered the portal. He is one of the best hitters on the team and from Orlando. No idea if we have a shot, but did I mention he is from Orlando? Right down the street from Ocala.

WVU Baseball loses All-Big 12 performer to transfer

Country roads take me home. They owe us something for Will Grier anyway.

Yes there is substance to that rumor because everything else I have been given is pretty much spot on. A few months ago I listed the 6-7 pitchers and thought it odd for several of them leaving. I later found out about the negativity from some of the key pitchers and their disagreement in their handling. Sure some pitchers might have left anyway because they second guess themselves but several pitchers were showing good signs of development before their ability started to fall. Two pitchers that I was always puzzled by were Christian Scott and Ben Specht. Scott showed signs early on like he could be a key contributor out of the bullpen. He was getting 3-5 innings in many of his relief appearances once the SEC started but about mid April the runs started coming and the opportunity dropped to barely an inning or two per weekend. Specht came out of 2020 a 3rd Team AA but fell apart in 2021 when many of us thought he was ready to be the closer. Compare that to this year with Manning, who as we all know fell apart, only to revive himself in the end. I'm sure 74nole will have his ideals of what goes on in a pitchers head or how the arm action gets lost in delivery. But I was not expecting either of these guys to give up on their Gator careers. I hope we keep most of the arms we have and start building for the next year instead of wash rinse repeat.

As long as he can hit a homerun to Ocala, he's fine by me.

Best catcher in the SEC may still reside in Gville next year.

Agree on Specht and Scott. Good to hear you say good things about Ben as some on this board forgot he was an All American and were very very hard on him. You don’t just go from All American to not playing baseball.

87, thanks for laying out as it is. There was/is considerable concern on how pitchers are being developed (or not) at UF. For almost a decade, Sully had the deserved reputation as HC who would develop and also take care of young arms. That seems to have declined since about 2018. - About the same time Gators went from elite level to very good. Lots of TJ injuries in last few years including top guys and it seems like player development has dropped off- despite top HS ratings. Manning and Abner most recent examples. But there are others-- e.g., Specht, Scott and Aleman in 2021. They had special talents in their own way- and yet they felt for whatever reason they were not getting the required support or coaching- so decided - to take the gap.

Specht is a case in point. Ben was a talented young man (projected AA) and was relegated after losing his mechanics and few rough outings last year. The same happened with Dyson in 2018- no one able to correct clear mechanical issues in delivery- I spoke with a scout at the time re Dyson and he could see the flaws in his arm side delivery- (I'm sure 74 could too). A coaching staff (like a Professor) should be working with the players to regain their form and to reach their potential - didn't quite happen with Dyson- but MLB took took him in 5th round and with Ben-- he left the game.

I don’t understand this at all. This is based on rumor? Maybe it is true. No idea. But your examples…

Aleman: Started at FIU. Went to JUCO. Wasn’t drafted. Comes to UF. Goes 10th round. Should have done better? What is the angle for he didn’t develop???

Scott: Wasn’t drafted out of HS. Went in the 5th round last year. Not good enough??

Specht: Drafted 40th round of HS. Quit playing baseball after last year.

I am not a Sully apologist. I don’t know the guy. Never met him beside a few “Congrats Coach” type comments after a game. But name 1 person that has left and become better. Name 1. Maybe there are 10 and I don’t remember.

The TJ surgeries are a concern. But it isn’t from abuse at UF. I think he has recruited “poorly” relative to his first 10 years. I think there have been changes over the last year which suggest UF will return to prior quality. Could easily be wrong. I just want to see data which shows Person X did Alpha AFTER Sully and I haven’t seen that data point yet.

Good memory on Dyson. Another favorite of mine. Kid goes from impressing at the CWS to almost non existent and has a ridiculous power arm. Ben was not only a talented pitcher but a great kid. Hard to figure some of these situations out.

He threw 12 innings, not exactly definitive sample size. We all had high expectations, he just couldn't get anybody out in 2021

9 appearances and he was really good and apparently others beside me thought he was pretty good to cite him All American.
Doesn’t negate the fact that he, Dyson, Scott and others just all of a sudden fell off the map.

Yes, he was good for 9 brief appearances.....that's what I said. But AA honors in such a brief season have to be taken with a grain of salt.
He was quite a hitter in 20 too. Hit 1000. Jordan Butler was a great hitter too, 333 in 12 starts

Speaking of catchers, I see today where sophomore Arkansas Razorback catcher Dylan Leach has entered the transfer portal.
