Weird positive but good for Sproat to work when he didn’t have his best stuff.
I wonder though if we don’t come to s time when Waldrep doesn’t become our number 1. The difference right now is minute but Waldrep’s stuff is better and if we are going to be great we may need to make this change. When he’s on, Waldrep can shut down anyone. Not sure Sproat can do that. I think he can but not sure.

Only thing I heard Sully say was getting it checked out. I guess we will know when the lineup comes out.

This team usually leaves us wondering about some things. I guess that's what makes it interesting and fun. We all know that things change when we get into conference play. The SEC is brutal and it will be a great challenge for us, even though we seem to have many of the key pieces to be great. We have to remember there will be ups and downs but, nevertheless, it will be a fun ride over the next several months.
Go Gators, onward to Omaha! :ninja3:

I checked last year's schedule and this same weekend we lost the Sunday game to Seton Hall. Anything is possible.

I was at LWHS in the 80s and we knew about that Gordon kid down in Avon Park who was mowing people down. Skip ahead 30 years and my kid is Apopka SS and Flash kid Nick is the SS at our big district rival Olympia. Flash told me as a freshman Nick was better than him.....3 years later he went 5th overall in the draft.

There were some awesome genes in that Avon Park family tree.
I’m sure Gabe threw against Lake Wales

I've heard Flash wasn't the greatest Dad to his boys. Don't know if they have better relationship now, however knew it wasn't great back then.

Had heard that about Dee, but he was very active at least from a baseball standpoint with Nick. At all his games, always working with him in the cages and pen. Flash also adopted Juan Hillman was a Polk County kid...moved in with them and was the second best player on that Olympia team. I think Juan is in the Cleveland org now. Those two guys were a lethal 1-2 pitching duo, then they had that Byrne kid as a change of pace.

I was the Florida HS North Coach in ‘84 and we played the South Florida all stars and I had Jay Bell as my SS and Rodney Brewer of Apopka . Still lost twice .
But the related story was the games were at Avon Park HS park. If I remembered correctly the Baseball Coach there was Ronnie Jackson if anyone remembers him . Long time ago

Okay folks big news to discuss from Sully tonight. He said in his post game there is a 65% chance of rain this Saturday in their game against Bama. They will be checking with the conference to see if they might have to play a double-header on Friday. If so Sully said he is going to limit Cags pitching tomorrow even more because of the possible 5 day turnaround. He didn't give a pitch count or number of innings but it sounds like if this weather is a real threat then Cags might be out of there tomorrow in only 3-4 innings.

Currently Weather.com shows this Thursday and Friday with beautiful weather and sunny to mostly sunny skies. Saturday has showers and thunderstorms for most of the day with a chance of rain at 69%.

So Cags will see an impact tomorrow unfortunately, so he can be ready to pitch Friday. But this will also impact our bullpen for the series. My guess Sully hopes to get thru Thursday night using as few arms as possible and maybe sticking with Sproat a little longer if possible and the other one or two arms that come into the game, either Neely and/or Fisher. Then Friday will force Sully to make sure we win Game 2 and hope for the best for Game 3.

I would also expect impacts to Tuesday's bullpen selections. Right now if Ursitti does not get an appearance on Sunday I hope he starts on Tuesday. Most would like to see Nesbitt but this weather situation probably puts Nesbitt as a premium for Friday. Tuesday probably opens the door to Tejeda again and a few unlikely arms of Hartzog, Arroyo, and Purnell. If the weather would not have changed plans then my thinking Sully would have stayed more with Nesbitt, Abner, Ficarrotta, and a short closer if needed on Tuesday.

One last opportunity if this all happens, Waldrep will be the perfect pitcher to go out there early Friday for Game 2 of the series. Last year he regularly pitched over 90 pitches on average and chewed thru innings. Sully will want him to pitch a long stretch to protect the lead and the bullpen as much as possible.

Plenty of positives to talk about after Saturday with Siena....
    1. Waldrep is now under the 4 ERA mark with a 3.86, slightly better than Sproat. They both have plenty of good numbers to compare but Cags comes in better than both.
    2. Welcome back Colby Halter. Colby is back above .300 and climbing. He needs to start tomorrow and get to face a LHP which should help even more.
    3. Slater lowers his ERA down to 4.50 and joins the under 5 club again. He came thru with a well deserved job limiting the Saints to no runs over 3 innings. He now has pitched over 16 innings and looks to be our solid middle relief pitcher.
    4. Congrats to Kurland who now leads this team in hits with 28, one more than Cags, and batting average at .459. How many times do we need to repeat it, he should be in high school. I hear he's pretty good and knows how to put bat on ball.
    5. Very glad Sully went the same direction as I was thinking and dropped Evans in the order. Evans got two hits and was very effective and Shelnut who moved up also held his own going 1-3 with a walk.
    6. Waldrep also did a great job getting first pitch strikes. It was clear for the first two innings Siena was watching the strikes go by working that pitch count up. Waldrep got ahead of every hitter and barely threw many balls for the first two innings.
    7. The main two things, the pitching got a shutout and every starter got a hit in the run rule finish.

    Weekend wrap up...
    1. We swept the series, simple as that. Last year the same weekend against Seton Hall we only won 2 out of 3. Winning 3 is an improvement.
    2. Cags ERA is down to 1.77 getting pulled after 3. Sully said he only wanted him to throw around 45 pitches.
    3. Abner is down to 2.70 and Hartzog is also at a 2.70 ERA. I'm glad Abner only threw 20 pitches so he should on available on Tuesday but I think he sits until Thursday.
    4. Still no Ursitti so my guess he starts Tuesday against N Florida, unless something else is going on. Hard to believe a guy with a 0 ERA and only given up 1 unearned run and 1 hit has only pitched 1.1 innings. It will be interesting to see who Sully uses on Tuesday with the Alabama series starting Thursday.
    5. I haven't seen a Sully post game yet so no idea if a rain out Saturday was discussed yet. My guess the two teams will talk with the SEC on Monday to decide and make plans from there if they play a double header on Friday.
    6. Checking batting stats Cags is back leading the nation in HRs with 13. Wilken at Wake Forest is at 12.
    7. The player with the best strike out to walk ration is Robertson with 4 strike outs and 14 walks. He's also tied with the most stolen bases.
    8. I'm really enjoying the Halter/Shelnut challenge for third base. I really think each is pushing the other to succeed which makes both players better.
    9. Lastly I'm wondering with Langford out does Sully give anyone else a night off Tuesday to rest for the weekend series like Riopelle, Cags, or Evans.
