Interesting stat of the day that I found. Last year Ty Evans had 99 at bats and recorded 5 doubles and 16 total RBIs. This year he has 10 at bats with 4 doubles and 10 RBIs. I'd say that's quite the improvement. Not bad for a guy batting sixth in the order.

But what was our OPS?? If it was low too then I guess the baseball gods were on our side. Actually is was because of Alex Faedo!

OB% combined with SLG% is main keys of the "Moneyball" principle. So a hitter with a high OB% with a low SLG% is not necessarily good.

BABE RUTH has the all time high OPS at 1.164. Mike Trout is the highest current at 1.002

I'm getting ready to read The Last Boy: Mickey Mantle and the End of America's Childhood by Jane Leavy. Has anybody read it? Came out in 2010 and is supposed to be the best biography of The Mick. He & Johhny Unitas were my childhood heroes and I read Johnny U: The Life & Times of Johnny Unitas by Tom Callahan last fall. Great book that brought back a lot of memories. I'm sure the Mantle book will do the same as baseball season gets underway.

If my memory is correct, Mantle, after his MLB career was over, made a living being himself. As in insurance company paid him $100k per year to show up once or twice a year at a national event. Paid to play in celeb golf etc. I remember DiMaggio did that. Nice gig.

Also, I think re: Unitas that while he was "the" QB, in the off season one year he went and installed Gino Marchetti's kitchen flooring. I think that was in the book on him. Funny thinking about re: today's players.

USF with a "green out"? Yuck, maybe they will all just blend into their seats.

Green has always been the toughest color ever to do anything worthwhile for a baseball uniform.

    Camo—not so much……

Any chance there will ever be a page on here with ongoing stats for the baseball and softball teams?

74, as a kid going through the ranks of minor and major little league, and then 2 years of pony league, seems all I wore was some sort of green combo uni's. Green & white, green & gold (yellow), and gold (yellow) & green..... LOL I loved the A's uni's of the 70's (and even modern also).

    GO GATORS!!!!

As the season gets going I will usually pick a few key stats to post and use for discussion. I pull them straight off the floridagators.com website or from the gamecast. They don't copy over into any format I know. Most of what I focus on is batting numbers like BA, OB%, HRs, SOs, etc. Do you have any preference on stats you would like to see?

    Gotcha—

Growing up in Albany, Ga., the popular colors for All-Stars were some combination of red, white, and blue—but those were also American Legion Post #30’s regular colors and Post #30 was the highest level of baseball played in Albany at that time

I'm glad we don't need a closer as much these days but I hope he gets more than 1 inning a week. Cincinnati should be better than CSU. Hopefully he gets some more time before Friday.

Just go to this link, hit schedule and choose the sport you want then hit the STATS tab and you can look at them anytime you want.

If you're going to go green you might as well do it right, not that any of us here might be biased.

I'm going to bed tonight with a really nice thought looking to next year. Our potential weekend starters could be Caglianone, Coppola, and Neely. It's a whole new world with the transfer portal but these three could be special. Sleep well Gator Baseball fans, sleep well.

Thanks M87, yes, Ocalaman gave me the access to the same site for the stats. I like to keep tab mainly on the offensive stats, Average, RBI's, 2B's, 3B's, HR's, Runs, Stolen Bases, pretty much all offensive stats. I'll check it out. Thanks so much. :)

You saw flashes at times last year with Ty. Way too many strikeouts last year. Looks much more encouraging this year.
