The first week of scrimmage will be very telling which direction Sully is heading with Riopelle. I've heard interesting feedback on Riopelle as well that makes me wonder how he will be used. I do know watching fall practices it seemed to me Sully put Cags at first every chance he got when he was not scheduled to pitch. Even days he did pitch Cags would still end up at first for an inning or two after coming off the mound. Cags or Riopelle would be great at DH but it will depend on Sully's trust of the other two catchers. I'm still hoping one of them rises up to take the position as well.

87—it’s going to also largely depend on which catcher best matches up to be on the same page with our #1 and #2…..again IMHO.

I like Cags at first- - even last spring when recovering from TJ and only lobbing the ball, he showed great D skills - soft hands, nice range, big target, great athlete. He can save a lot of throwing errors with his D and his stretch and lefthanded also a big plus. I'd be very surprised if anyone but Cags is the everyday 1st baseman, except when he pitches. Can't imagine Fabian there over Lastres. And, let's not forget the newbies- Tejeda is a top prospect and Lastres- coming off TJ but he has to get his reps somehow, or he might hit the Portal.. First base against a LHP when Sully plans to use Cags on the mound. The dilemma of riches for Sully- gotta try to keep all the talent happy.
Go Gators... feeling good vibes about this season.

PS: is the scrimmage schedule posted yet?

I'm still waiting to hear any news on scrimmages. My guess is first scrimmage could be on Jan 27th. That coincides with the same start date last year.
I'm pretty sure opening day is Feb 17th, I'm pretty sure.

At first I was going to leave it alone but I can't. This conundrum Sully has at second. Nick puts Dale Thomas as his starter at second. I still have Kurland at second. I agree with Nick that Thomas showed some of the best fielding skills of any infielder at the fall practices I made it to. He's got great range, soft hands, and a sure throw. His bat however is the unknown. Kurland is the major recruit EE that showed good fielding instincts, could play about anywhere, and a plus bat. The conundrum for Sully is if he doesn't play Kurland enough can he get the next highly ranked recruit EE that wants to come. At practices Sully always seemed to give Kurland every opportunity to play with Rivera at SS to let that combo work together. I believe, over the season, the freshman's bat will better add to the overall success than the glove of Thomas. Also in both fall games Kurland started at second.

Now OF is another thing. I'm all for Robertson starting in CF.

I see Robertson in CF and Cade K at 2B. Cags will start at 1B as well.

    Ahhh—

The smell of fresh cut grass, the crack of the bat, the whistling sound of the thrown baseball, the pop and smell of leather catching the ball, the sounds of spikes hitting the dugout steps and then the field, the sliding sounds as players go for an extra bag, the vocal encouragements, and the laughter…….

    BRING IT ON!

The whizzing sound of a bat hitting nothing but air as a hitter mournfully strikes out; the sound of a breaking bone as a runner violently slides into a determined defender at second base; the angry, snarling stare and then spirited run with arms wildly flailing as a runner who was hit by a pitch flies towards the mound; the annoying aroma of cheap, discount rate hot dogs wafting through the air; creative and multisyllabic uses of the "f" word sprinkled with disturbing references to parents as opposing teams heckle each other.

Let's get this season started. :)

Apparently the UF Media department is more concerned about selling tickets and incoming freshmen class ratings, or perhaps the coaches haven't decided the starting times for this coming weekend. I check every day and nuttin.

I think the UF Media Dept has lot bigger issues they are dealing with right now based on the crap show our football program is in to date. Basketball season appears to already be a wash. I now only look forward to gymnastics, baseball and softball.

For what it’s worth, I know Stetson begins their scrimmages this Friday and would assume Florida would be on a very similar schedule.

    High heat—
If you don’t own the inside half you’ll never command the outside half—
Get your ass back behind the plate-the only thing you know about pitching is that it’s hard to hit—
Drag marks-the sign of the real boy dog—
    Grunt every pitch-leave no doubt—
    Gotta love baseball!

Rats I saw JJH had posted and I thought for sure we finally had some scrimmage info. I even sent an email and have heard nothing. Hopefully tomorrow UF will post this weekend's scrimmage plans. I'll be running around town most of the day so hopefully somebody will post the update if it hits, please.
