I've mentioned this a few times on here but had a proud Dad moment yesterday. My son is a freshman RH pitcher for Stetson and started the inter squad they had on Tuesday. Only threw an inning but it was a clean one. He was told he has earned mound time this weekend against Florida. I had one goal growing up and that was to play baseball on Florida field as a Gator. Well my son will be recognizing my dream, albeit in a different uniform. Im pretty excited about it!

Very proud of your son and understand completely. I know we are not suppose to share too much personal info on here but I'd appreciate knowing what number he wears so when he takes the mound any of us could stand and applaud. That's a moment to remember.

I can say for a fact—when all of Gator Nation is standing up and applauding your son on the ball field at home—that’s as special a feeling as you can ask for!

That is so very cool. And I understand the feeling you will get. Mine went to play college golf and my wife and I went to the first tourney. We stood there when the first swing in competition was striped right down the middle of the fairway. We both wanted to jump 10 feet and scream....I still remember that day.

For your son, there will come that "moment", that incredible never to be forgotten event. It could be 3 Ks coming in w/ pond full or a gem of a game. But there will be "one". Save the box score and have him sign it. I did w/ one score card.

Agree, but feel like Prevesk’s upside is pretty high. APK could probably tell us more but I was very impressed w him right out of high school and I like another lefty in the lineup. I say the difference is who puts bat on ball more. With the talent this team has, these 2 courier be the difference. Really can’t have lots of strikeouts and hoping Sully wants that contact guy.

Notes from todays DH against Stetson....
    1. Well it looks more and more like Cade Kurland has locked down the starting spot at 2B. He started both games today there and has most every scrimmage this fall when he plays.
    2. Waldrup looked amazing today, the best that I have seen him in my three times this fall. Sproat has remained the most consistent and shows no trouble of working out of any trouble with a higher level of command on a variety of pitches. Today though Waldrup made the hatters look foolish up there. They couldn't tell what was coming.
    3. Coppola sat today unfortunately. I think I heard he was okay just resting. Hopefully we see him back for the O&B WS.
    4. Neeley came in as the closer today. He did that at another scrimmage I was at. Makes me think he is our most likely closer going into the spring. More to come from Sully this February.
    5. Halter is still out. That caused the infield to shuffle a little but I believe we are seeing the batting order take shape. Sully has gone to the order of Robertson, Langford, Cags, Rivera, and Riopelle quite a bit lately. Will that remain, time will tell. But where does Halter fit in. I'll think it thru and then post my final update to the batting order after this O&B WS this weekend.
    5. DH I'm leaning more and more to Shelnut once Halter gets back healthy. Sure Lastres is probably the guy that comes in late when we need a HR. Shelnut is seeing it well and could be am RBI producer in this lineup. Of course it all depends if he keeps it up this spring.
    6. Does Rivera remain in the 4th spot? Unknown but my guess is once Halter gets back and starts hitting you will see more changes in the batting order. We really have some quality LH hitters with Robertson, Cags, Riopelle, Halter, etc. PS and don't forget about Finnvold.
    7. One thing I was most impressed at today was our defense with no errors. Sure Abner had trouble fielding an awkward spinning jam job, but everyone else played relatively clean. That says a bunch at the close of fall.
    8. Other than a few troubles by two pitchers we had a good day on the mound. That is very encouraging especially when you combine that with the Jax scrimmage. Great pitching and sound defense will take you far.

Number of K's was still higher than I would like to see, well over 1 per inning.
On a positive, our pitchers produced even more than that

Waldrep was almost unhittable. Nice command and breaking stuff looked to be tunneling from same release point as fast ball. Impressive.

I think you are right on Shelnut. I believe he is going to force his way into the lineup somehow some way. I thought the Florida staff looked great collectively, save a couple of bad outings. I thought both games overall were well pitched on both sides, minus a couple of half innings both ways.

Have not kept up with the scrimmages as in the past and watched only 5 innings of the first Stetson game (long rain delay). Sproat solid as expected. With Halter injured not sure how the infield shakes out but one notes the absence of Deric Fabian- not sure if he is injured or what is happening.
Cags is our 1st baseman, Rivera at short and Halter at 3rd or second- which leaves one spot at either 2nd or 3rd. Some give Kurland the nod at the moment. Shelnut can hit but not sure he has the needed dexterity to hold down a starting infield spot.
I do not see Rivera in the 4 hole. He may hit well in scrimmages where his familiarity with the pitchers gives him a leg up but vs Stetson he had several tentative half swings which is par for his hitting approach with pitchers he is not familiar with. I see him down in the 6 or 7 hole. Pleased that Robertson is getting a long look to hold down CF. I'd want him in the lineup for his speed- he beat out a swinging bunt against Stetson and he can run like no one we've had since Buddy Reed. Need to see Lastres get his reps with the bat and would consider him for the 4th spot behind Cags. Would also like to see Prevesk get a fair shot at RF- he is a contact hitter and at minimum have him split time with Evans who has power yes but in the end hit only .242. Pitching is bountiful so up to Sully to keep everyone happy and ready to contribute. Long way to go till opening day but man this team seems loaded and primed for success. Barring injury, anything short of Omaha would be disappointing.

Did we have some baseball signees occur yesterday (or Wednesday)? I know the real test is the draft in the Summer, but I was just curious to see who signed or did not sign. TIA
