With only two weeks to go before fall ball, the football team did us a favor in the loss to Tennessee. Not only did they end the hopes of many Gator fans bouncing back in year one of the Napier march, they opened the attention to many other UF sports like baseball.

As I write this reminder I pause to say everyone should be cautious about the upcoming season. The last two years have been less than expected for Gator baseball, whether end of year letdowns or plaguing injuries or coaching changes. But the football team should be a reminder not to put over expectations on this baseball team. We still have many of the same players as last year, same coaches, same schedules, same old same old. Its easy to think if we had Barco and Caglianone all of last year then things would have been different. ON and on it goes so we wait to see how this year will be any different. I'll be the first one to say this year feels different because of many reasons, such as plenty of arms to go around on the mound, the bats of Langford, Riopelle and Caglianone are back, and the schedule looks like this team could rack of plenty of wins to put us in a higher seeding in the post season.

Just remember, as I tell myself, don't get caught up in the early hype. View the season as building blocks and watch if this team plays together and works to produce runs while the bullpen becomes a shutdown force against any team. Do they do the little things we all talk about. Let's get thru fall ball and see what we've got. Let's get thru spring practices to see if they are dialed in. Let's get thru the first third of the season to see if this team shows consistency no matter who will are playing. Then when we hit the SEC do we go out there and win every home weekend series without giving any away. Yes it's time for this team to take an accounting of who they are and what they want out of the season but they have to prove it on the field to themselves.

Well said @Matherly87, well said. Coulda/Shouda/Woulda have shattered a lot of dreams.

You earn it one day at a time-every single day. Work hard to get better every day to the point that your opponents wish they hadn’t stepped on the field with you.

Well, all that said, I'm pretty optimistic. Far more than I was with football season. :)

Most of today in Gainesville the wind is blowing 20-25 out of the north. I wonder if Wyatt Langford could hit one out to left field.

    D1 Baseball top programs.......
Florida, Miss State, Arkansas and Vandy will all be in top 5. However, no way should Louisville be rated at 6 and LSU at 7. Also South Carolina at 32 is ridiculous.

I'm still looking for any posting about Sunday's opening for fall ball. I haven't seen anything yet as to time or pitchers planned. Hopefully they will get something out soon. The only mention I've seen lately is....

Florida's fall season kicks off this Sunday, Oct. 9 and features exhibition games against Georgia in Jacksonville (Oct. 28) and Stetson at Condron Family Ballpark (Nov. 6). The Gators will also revive the Orange & Blue Series, which is scheduled for Nov. 10, 11 and 13.

The gates of Condron Family Ballpark are open to the public for the duration of fall practice.

Caglianone approved to pitch after Tommy John surgery.

    Nice.

    Coppola back too?

    Really nice.

Remember—TJ surgery guys are coming back within their respective throwing protocols and it is referred to as “getting their work in”—let’s wish them all the best!

    Thanks Matside for posting.
TJ surgery aside, these pairings make me think the weekend starters will obviously come from Sproat, Waldrep, Coppola, and Neeley and the closer is between Caglianone, Slater and maybe Abner. Lots can change especially if Caglianone comes back sooner than expected after getting his work in during the fall. I really hope to see Sproat and Waldrep starting against each other on Sunday. I do find it interesting Clemente is perhaps first out of the bullpen on day one.

Here's a link to the rest of the practice info.
Gators Set to Open Fall Practice on Sunday - Florida Gators
Can't wait to see what's on second, I don't know's on third, and why is in left field. I guess that will be determined if because is in center.

Perhaps Frankly is our new batting coach.
