If Abner could take over the closer role, I would feel much better about the 2023 season. Boy would that help.

Abner made a cosmic advance in improving his control issues in the summer league.

If this holds look out. He'll be a great one.

Note - on the recruiting trail Abner was considered to be on par with Jac Caglianone as a hitter.

Re Abner - does anyone know if he had control issues in HS or was this a new thing in college?? Just curious.

Abner's HS stats are behind a pay wall on Perfect Game Scouting Report but if you read his write-up he was a strike thrower so control issue appears to have popped up in college ball- and clearly for those who followed his performances- it was a breakdown in mechanics as was the case with Manning. Surprising that the coaches were unable to work it out with Manning and only until the last stretch with Abner.
And as 5220 noted, Abner was considered a two-way threat with pull power from the left side- not sure on par with Jac but write up sounds impressive.

This has the potential to be one of the most talented rosters in UF history. Obviously a lot is based on projection, however the return of WL and BS already give you two potential 1st rounders. Add in JC, transfer from Southern Miss and others and you have a LOT of talent on this roster.

The question will be can they gel TOGETHER. Sully's recent engagement hopefully has him refocused and more disciplined. ;)

Great points @jdgator — team and together — that is the key. The potential approaches the WOW factor.

Good catch. I hadn't noticed they added the 2023 to the drop down. I've being checking the page regularly and forgot to hit the drop down to see if the 2023 roster was set up. I'll update my original post and compare notes. Thanks

All players are as expected on the new roster. The only new player that is not on it is William Ross RHP out of West Orange Winter Park. I believe someone had reported he chose to go elsewhere.

What I love about this roster is I only see maybe 5-6 guys that might not see some playing time. Everyone else could be at least a small contributor when needed. I'm sure Sully will narrow them down to his most dependables but we have room to grow as needed.

We lost some good hitting. Which newcomers could step up for us there?

The only bats gone: Fabian and Thompson.

Thompson, as a 2B, is replaced by Thomas. That should be a fine like-for-like replacement based on stats but we have to see how Thomas handles SEC pitching.

Fabian, not sure there is a like-for-like replacement. The Rutgers transfer plus a number of the now Sophs plus a couple FR will have to replace him.

As far as Fabian goes I would still say we now have Jac Cags for the whole season as his replacement for HRs and a better average. Thomas or Shelnut will be serviceable but perhaps a little less than Thompson ended up. Throw in guys like Heyman, Tejeda, and Schiekofer and we might have a better all around lineup than the last few years.

Losing Thompson's consistent and quality presence at the plate and Jud's power and D in CF will hurt but the new guys and second year guys should be able to make up for the loss. Hoping for solid contributions from Michael Robertson- very highly recruited and blazing speed 6.3 40. Langford is a hoss and should have a huge year. I expect Jac and Evans to continue to develop and hoping for great year from Halter following his excellent summer on the Cape. Several of the incoming guys look promising and I circled Yoel Tejeda from Broward. Kid is 6'6' and still filling out- could be a major contributor. His scouting report is cause for great optimism.
