Great job by the UF baseball media dept doing the workup I suppose. I'm almost a believer he really is going to come here.

I did some digging at the stats for Waldrep during 2022. I must say I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. Sure there's plenty to like about Hurston with his SO/W ratio and the 90 innings pitched, but his 6-2 record tells much more than you'd think. He threw over 90 pitches in 10 games last year so he can chew thru some innings when needed and hopefully keep us competitive. My trouble is the games he did really good in and got the wins in were against teams like N Alabama, WKU, La Tech (his best team faced with a win), Rice, UAB, and Mid Tenn. But he struggled against better competition. I see he was the Sunday starter for the most part and did seem to be their third best starter. So in my short view I'm not thinking he is 3rd string AA if he is at an SEC school. He certainly has to step up to be a Friday or even a Saturday starter this year. That said I'll be looking forward to seeing him this fall to see if he shows a greater potential than his stats show.

Barco signed for less. Now we wait to see if Pogue gets what he wants.

As a Twins fan, I wish he'd dropped four more spots and kept up the Gator tradition of going to AL Central teams (Faedo, Singer, Kowar, Leftwich, Mace, Aleman).

As a Gator/Barco fan: he signed for 1/4 million under slot, but a 10-year career in the show as a #3/4 starter is worth somewhere between 50-100 million. At first glance, +1% of getting to that full-pension-career is a good bargain for going under slot. Of course, there's the whole "time value of money" and "risk vs. reward" thing here, but... Barco's major was economics. I trust he (or his agent) did the math.

He was one of the pitchers on the USA Baseball Collegiate team this summer in an international tournament. His record was 0-1 with the loss vs. Curacao. His pitching line was ip 2.1; h 4; r 3; er 3; bb 1; so 2. He also had a hbp and a bk. Not too impressive.

Agree Josh improved a ton. Him coming back next year is is big for our team as defensively the strides he made to me were very very impressive. He is the least mentioned guy in relation to our possible success next year and I would argue that he may be one of the most important guys coming back as you cannot replace that defense and if he is a solid hitter in the five or six hole we will be very tough. Watched him a lot when he was younger and always saw very good player but never a day one draft pick. With a good solid senior year I hope he’ll be drafted in the top 10 rounds next year. Good solid senior year to me is 290, 8 to 10 home runs, 35 to 40 RBIs and more important than anything else that solid defense that he showed this year. If you look at kids like cade Horton winning also helps. I know he was a highly regarded kid coming out of high school but Oklahoma’s regional, super regional, and World Series run improved hie draft stock immensely.

I started to say maybe were being a little too tough on this kid but I will change my verbiage and say we are being a little too tough… Did anyone see his outing against national champion Ole Miss in which he struck out 12 in a loss?? We are talking national champs snd right as they were hotter than a firecracker. He was dominant most of that game. I would also tell you the team he pitched against this summer probably had between four and five kids whose names you will be hearing about in the future

Time will tell—should be fun to watch him develop on the SEC stage.

Well.....he was good enough to be on the USA National team and to start in the semi final game. It appears others think pretty highly of him. Tough to be too critical of that. ;)

I prefer not to judge anyone on one game in which he gave up 5 runs in 5 innings, 4 earned, on 6 hits, including 2 doubles, and 4 walks for a 7.20 ERA. Again I prefer not to look at only one game so I will wait until the fall to see what we have with Waldrep. I just feel by what I am reading now that if Waldrep is our Friday starter, we are in trouble.

Oh geesh, I messed up on that one. Had a bad third inning. Still impressive 12 K’s in 5 innings.
I think he definitely has stuff to be a Friday night guy but due to just becoming a Gator will be our Saturday guy. Praying Coppola is healthy but with a back issue never know.

Agree, without a wild chance of someone like Sproat coming back, guys like Coppola or the young Clemente will have to contribute some how some way. I have heard nothing on Coppola's rehab or expectations. It probably hasn't been long enough since his back surgery to start testing it out. Abner is another need as a possible lefty contributor if he continues his quality pitching from the summer league.

    Seems harsh.
He also struck out 11 in 6+ inn in a no decision on the road at LSU. Gave up 2 ER.
Overall his stats look more impressive to me than Sproat's did prior to this season.
Very happy to have him on board.

Happy as well but I just want to make sure we aren't over estimating his ability that some have suggested he could be our Friday starter. He did have some good outings but I'm not sure that will translate to 10 weeks of SEC caliber competition.

Looking at his stats and the guys coming back, his chances look about as good as anybody's to me. As always time will tell.

Good point but I guess I'm trying to qualify his stats in comparison to the level of competition faced. Sproat and Neely for instance might be similar (not to roll thru some big breakdown) but I'd take their stats for the type of teams they faced in March-May than who Waldrep was facing. Any of a dozen arms could end up the Friday night guy. I'm throwing caution to his elevated status (3rd AA) until he sees the SEC gauntlet.

Waldrep’s last two starts were against two SEC schools (LSU and Ole Miss) in the postseason. Against LSU Waldrep gave up two runs in 6 2/3 IP with 11 Ks. The next week against Ole Miss he allowed four earned runs over 5 IP but struck out 12. Not saying he is an Friday night guy but striking out 23 SEC hitters over 11 2/3 shows Waldrep has really good swing and miss stuff.
