He is still one example as others have said and so there may not be 10 other Langford’s out there in Sully’s tenure that didn’t get a shot. But I still do agree he has, at least lately, been stubborn in certain positions. Langford also could have DH’ed in 2021. It wasn’t like Calilao and Armstrong were All-SEC in 2021. There were some ABs that were out there (to your point).

This year, assuming Rivera does in fact come back though apparently there is a chance he doesn’t, there is 1 OF spot completely open, 2B, and 1B.

Cags will hit. DH or 1B. Riopelle, Langford, and Rivera (again assuming he comes back) are all completely locked into their positions assuming no giant regressions. Halter is highly likely a lock. Evans might be close to a lock.

Getting ABs for last year’s FR and this coming year’s FR is no easy task… Will be interesting to watch it unfold.

the thing i see is, after looking at Perfect game stats on him, he was not listed as a catcher. He was the 3rd ranked 3rd baseman in Fl as well as 12th ranked 3rd base Nationally. And his body not much changed from pics on there, also....kid ran a 6.7 60....so how fast is he now if he improved his speed?? lol. So he should have got some time at 3rd, which trying to remember back to fall scrimmages I never saw him at 3rd, only 1st base, catcher a tad and outfield.

I think the 2nd base spot will be locked up by the Coastal Transfer. I also think Evans locked up his corner spot in RF. Where Shellnut (SF transfer) fits in is the question. Left may get many looks from different players because I imagine they move Langford to CF

Glad to see Abner figuring things out, just hope "The Big Stage" is not his Achilles heal. Kid was missing strike zone like he was blindfolded this past season

I think we can all agree that Gators baseball has underperformed the past several years. I have a dear friend and former fraternity brother that coached Wyatt Langford several years. My friend told me that he's been a stud the entire time he's been on campus. I just want to see Gators baseball get back to the look of the 2011 to 2017 teams. The past several years have been very frustrating to watch.

Some justifiable critiques of where the program has dropped off since 2018 (last trip to Omaha). Three years when they failed to get out of the Regionals, including two hosted. Player development is what I would highlight.
I see some guys who have developed very little or regressed in their 3-4 years on campus. Rivera has improved with the glove but he is the same inconsistent hitter he was when he stepped on campus. Armstrong and Calilao regressed. Jud was pretty much steady state from freshmen year without developing into the star we all expected. Halter regressed last year. Thompson and Langford are flat out outstanding hitters and they just had to be left alone and let their talent blossom. Same critique about pitching. Barco highly touted coming in and showed flashes of stardom as a freshman and then settled into a very good but far from lights out Friday night guy. Glad he got picked on the first night and think he will succeed if he fully recovers. Sproat blossomed late last year when thrust into the spotlight and think he will succeed in pro ball. Pogue, Specht, and several others left the program shaking their heads. Lots of highly touted pitchers fell flat on their faces- Manning, Abner, Hartman come to mind- two of those guys are gone with the complaint that they received very little guidance from staff when their mechanics broke down. In four years, the Gators have gone from elite to a solid program. That is not the Gator Standard. With the new facilities, and a quality incoming class it's time to see a good run at Omaha in 2023.

Cade Kurland confirmed this week he is indeed enrolling early so everyone may need to reconfigure their projected line-up for next year. Kurland led the state of Florida with 13 HRs this past season and has a chance to be really good.

Here's some fairly good info on the top three high school players coming to Florida next year, Yoel Tejeda, Luke Heyman, and Cade Kurland. Its going to be hard to keep these guys off the field. The tough part is who sits (Rivera, Halter, Thomas, Riopelle, Evans)??? I think its clear, you better be swinging a hot bat when spring practice gets started or someone else is going to play.

D Fabian hit .462 his senior season, hitting 13 home runs with 52 RBI, so I wouldn't go changing it yet

I don’t know HS baseball anymore. It has been 20 years since I played. Berkeley Prep in Tampa, how good is their competition? The Tampa area has some terrific baseball (Faedo, Alonso, etc have come out of Tampa) but no clue on Berkeley Prep.

I know D Fabian played at Trinity Catholic (I think) in Ocala (I know…). Small school. Great area but most games were likely against weak competition.

Obviously these kids also play the circuit. But referencing HS stats means competition is relevant.

Correction Deric started at Trinity Catholic and finished at North Marion High. I believe he switched after his sophomore year. NMHS was a step up but still very similar competition because most schools in Marion County play much of the same competition other than a few district games further away in the district. I get your point but a kid by the name of Sterlin Thompson also came out of North Marion High and word is he did pretty good for a farm boy from Ocala of all places.

D Fabian played for North Marion. They played alot of weak opponents.

Pete played for Plant, as did Preston Tucker. Jac Cag's is also from there and a slew of Major's

I wasn’t trying to demean D Fabian in any way. Or Marion County. Just pointing out that stats without context can be misleading.

I still know nothing about Berkeley Prep. Playing in Tampa doesn’t mean Cade played great competition. They might play Tampa Christian and Bradenton Christian and Lakeland Christian, etc. (small private schools, not an indictment on religious views or even those schools as Westminister Christian is historically excellent).

I meant nothing, just giving you a hard time. I figured everyone has heard my Ocala rants enough to know I like to crow every now and then. I felt @fat_gator gave us a great reminder of Deric's stats and no matter who you play for .462 with 13 homers is pretty good. Can he learn to hit major college pitching is the question as with any recruit.

Berkeley Prep made it to the 3A finals this past season in which Kurland homered in the loss against North Broward Prep (and UF signee Yoel Tejeda). During the season they beat state power Tampa Jesuit in a game Kurland homered against FSU signee Jamie Arnold. Berkeley Prep also played Clearwater Calvary Christian, who may have been the best team in Florida regardless of classification, four time last year. Be assured Kurland faced some very good competition this past season.

By the way, Kurland has a younger brother who as a FR started the state final on the mound for Berkeley Prep. LHP and currently low to mid-80s but has a chance to develop into a high DI prospect also.
