Austin Temple, a transfer to ND under LJ, entered the portal at the deadline. He is a grad transfer and he gets to transfer for free AGAIN. Crazy.

I am assuming he will follow LJ to the SWAC? A solid starter and they lost Ross Dunn to the portal.

Temple was a great pickup from Jacksonville originally. Not like Waldrep but still would be a good pick up.

Yep- Manning to Arizona State- change of scenery will do him good- and dry climate can only help. Little doubt he felt there was limited player development from Gators staff. When his mechanics fell apart- no one worked closely with him to iron out.

The word I'm getting is not good on Waldrep. Seems our coaches are not feeling very good about the possibilities of landing him in Gainesville. Apparently we are only after very few players in the portal and it looks like a miss for Waldrep. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh man, we need pitching big time and this was arguably the biggest name out there.

In my unneeded and humble opinion, UF needs a starter and a closer. UF might have 3-4 starters but that is projecting a lot on Cags, Nesbitt and Coppola.

Would love to see at minimum a shutdown closer but Waldrep (or similar) would be huge.

Does anyone know the health status of Coppola? We are expecting a lot for a kid who missed almost the entire season and who is not pitching this summer.

For sure on Coppola, we all are hoping he is our number one or two but really with a back injury you just never know… And the one time I saw him live his ceiling looked bigger/better than any prospect I’ve seen in the last 6 to 7 years at Florida. Granted it was a small sample size but for 18 years old and performing on the big stage against a good team and liberty it was very impressive.
And I agree with the other poster with regards to pitching… We need at least one big-time starter and one big time both pen guy. I keep saying the kid from FSW in Fort Myers is going to be a game changer in some respect but that again is me with my glass half full attitude

I don’t imagine Cags will be starting this year. Not until late (like Pogue this year). I don’t expect to see him on the mound much until mid season. I do expect him to start the season at first though.

And it’s a back injury too, right? Those can be tricky.

He underwent TJ at the end of his HS season based on a Baseball America article written in advance of the 2021 draft (July 2021 date on the article). His rehab has him at roughly 14 months by now.

    Note: Baseball America article

(Google ‘Jac Caglianone Tommy John Baseball America and you will find the link which mentions when he went through the surgery so you don’t have to go behind the paywall).

Pogue underwent TJ in February/January of 2021 (referencing an Alligator.org article from February 2021).

Using the same time frame, Cags will be equal in his rehab time frame as Nick by August/September. By February, he will be 6 months ahead from where Nick ended the season.

Every person is different but I definitely expect Jac to be starting on the mound.

Good info. I was mistaken on the timeline. Thanks. I certainly hope to see him on the mound asap.

I will say that I am putting a lot of faith in a scouting report. He hasn’t thrown a single college pitch and I am putting him in the rotation!!!

I am doing it based solely on PG’s rating. I have never seen him throw a pitch.

He was rated the #1 LHP in Florida and #4 Nationally in 2021. #33 overall HS player. That is pretty good… But tons of HS kids flame out. He sure looked the part with the bat though!!! I can’t imagine “the moment” is going to get to him.

Don’t know the health of Coppola but he is a tall thin left hander. We could really use a husky left hander to even things out.

Eck played 2B for the Gators with Mark Ellis at SS. Both had good MLB careers, but Eck played SS and Ellis played 2B. Ellis stayed 4-6 years longer in the show than Eck. Both great Gators.

Cag was on the field, working out during the fall. No throwing or batting, but other agility and fitness activities. This for a guy expected to sit out the season. I perceived it as a good attitude and a commitment to the program.

think of how higher in the uf records eck would be if he had not been wasted his true freshman year for a couple of games in a miami regional due to injuries

If the information of Cags is 14 months in on his rehab is correct then we need to remember that he’s a power pitcher and that’s going to have an expectation of 24 months rehab back to true game speed—10 more months to go. Hoping for the best!
