This is so frustrating but congrats to Caglianone for making it back to get his first start today. I've very interested to see what the young hitter can bring to the lineup.

Hopefully he doesn’t feel like he’s got to go 8 for 5….

That would be 4 times as many hits as any other game this weekend. You do the math.

Here is a stat nugget that really ticks me off and speaks exactly to one of our many problems. Of our normal starters guess who has the lowest batting average on the season with Runners On Base???
Colby Halter at .180, what kind of leader is that who can't even bat 200 when you have runners on and the coach keeps him in the leadoff spot. Now we understand Sully's thinking. He figures since Halter is lowest on the team with runners on then its best to keep him leading off because anywhere else would only make things worse.

That play where he got picked off yesterday was just the lowest IQ baseball possible. The announcers even commented at the beginning of Jud's at bat when the pitcher threw over there that Halter wasn't going anywhere given the circumstances. And I know it was a 3-2 count when it happened and he wanted to get a good jump, but you can't be that unaware, especially for the "gamer" he's supposed to be.

Halter is not a gamer. I'm not even sure he's SEC caliber.

    He'll never make the bigs.

I don't really care much about stats in the mean time but in case you are wondering which batters are holding their own in SEC play.
I pulled these from my last batting update and added the current info.

    Player------------3/14 AVG--4/19 AVG----DIFF----4/26 AVG----
    Halter, Colby--------
    .391----- .272 -------(-.119)------- .252-------
    Langford, Wyatt---- .377------ .348 -------(-.029)------ .333------
    Thompson, Sterlin-- .358------ .336 ------(-.022)------- .333------
    Riopelle, BT---------- .318----- .317 -------(-.001)------ .292-------
    Fabian, Jud---------- .310------ .291 ------(-.019)------- .275-------
    Calilao, Kendrick----
    .286----- .257 -------(-.029)------- .242-------
    Fabian, Deric-------- .278----- .231 -------(-.047)------- .222-------
    Armstrong, Kris----- .227----- .222 -------(-.005)------- .222------
    Rivera, Josh--------- .216----- .282 ------- +.066-------- .271------
    Guscette, Mac------- .143----- .246 ------- +.103------- .235------

The only player that has not dropped further is Armstrong because he has not batted. Props to Sterlin for only losing 3 points last week. Most everybody else dropped 10 to 15 points, except Halter who dropped another 20. FYI in his 3 ABs Caglianone is batting .333. I hope to add him to the list going forward if Sully will leave him in but you also have to credit Lastres who is also batting .333 or Talbott at .316 but rarely get an AB against SEC pitching.

I'm hearing a shuffle in the rotation this weekend. It will be Sproat/Neely/ and then either Slater or Nesbitt. Hopefully we can win the first game and give ourselves a better chance to win the series. If not, oh well.
There is also some uncertainty about Barco's future and just what the injury is or is not. Hopefully more to come from this weekend.

I can't believe how poor this season has gone. I guess we should have tempered our expectations were too high the way last season ended. We lost all of our top 7 or 8 pitchers besides Barco and our 2 most consistent hitters.

Outfield may be a little better with the addition of Langford who is doing great in his first year playing. Sterlin has been about same batted .290 last year in conference and .282 this year. Jud's conference statistics this year have not been good. Pretty much down across the board except for OB%. Average = .255 - .200, OPS = 1.049 - .887, Slugging% = .664 - .492. Maybe he can finish strong or I think he probably cost himself some money by coming back.

Infield has been about the same. Halter's recent slump is really hurting from the leadoff spot and we could really use some production from him. Knowing Josh was coming back it did not really bother me losing Carrion. I was wrong. He played well in spot duty last year and after getting his feet wet this year he could really solidified 3rd base this year. His has been on a tear for the noles as of late and has his average up to almost .300. If he would have stayed to play 3rd this year, which he may not have, would have been huge. Deric current conference average of .155 has really hurt. I am like the rest of you and think he may have hit a wall. Could probably use a brake. The rest of the infield has been about the same.

But we all know pitching has been the real problem with this team. It is hard to win in the SEC if you don't 3 solid starters and a real closer. With Barco and Sproat of late we had 2, but now without Barco we will continue to struggle. This should not be surprising since we last so much pitching from last year.

Not sure next year is much better. Don't see our pitching being better if we lose Barco. Could be another long year. The SEC seems to be getting even tougher in baseball.

From where we were after the first month of the season to where we are now, this is almost hard to believe but its finally happened. Colby Halter's batting average in the SEC is now lower than Deric Fabian, .154 to .164. Plus Colby's On Base % is the lowest in conference on the team of our starters. Caglianone sure has a wide open door to step through if he keeps up the great hitting.

Alright since Sully shook things up finally and everyone is so enamored about Caglianone's great start, I'll step back in the ring with my "Hope to See but Will Never See Lineup".

RF - Sterlin Thompson (L) - gut feeling says he's getting ready to go on a run
CF - Jud Fabian (R) - still leads the team in OB% so keep him early in the order
LF - Wyatt Langford (R) - most productive batter on the team should be hitting 3rd
C - BT Riopelle (L) - homerun potential from the left side
DH - Jac Caglianone (L) - sky high potential but still a freshman
SS - Josh Rivera (R) - consistent average no matter who we play
3B - Kris Armstrong (S) - he has been sitting for too long, give him a chance
1B - Kenny Calilao (R) - low production with the bat but still dependable with the glove
2B - Jorge De Goti (R) - right now anyone but Halter so I dare Colby to prove me wrong, please

Interesting stat of the day when leading off an inning our top batter is Jud Fabian hitting .452. Sterlin Thompson is next closest at .400 according to the in game stats from yesterday. That's suppose to be batting average not on base percent.

Getting word that Lastres lack of playing might be from an arm issue.

I would take Lastres or anyone else with one arm hitting vs D Fabian or K Calileo

Jameson was good in his 4 innings the other day. Have we given up on Manning or is there an arm issue with him as well. And what about Pogue? He had several shots and just couldn't throw strikes. Is he out of chances as well?

Halter did get 2 of our 5 hits Sunday. But, yeah, he's stunk it up at the plate for the bulk of the SEC season.
